In Brief:
- On Aug. 21, Illuvium co-founder Kieran Warwick said the studio’s cost reductions have added more than 12 months to its operating runway.
- Nearly the entire remaining team is working on the MMORPG, and most of those staff have been with the studio for more than three years.
- A December 2026 launch is planned for the MMO, alongside a handful of smaller releases slated for 2026.
Illuvium extends operating runway
Six months of belt-tightening and wage reductions have bought Illuvium more than a year of extra operating runway, according to Kieran Warwick’s Aug. 21 comments. Staff are now focused on the studio’s MMO project, which is targeting a December 2026 release.
What Warwick did not share was the studio’s current cash position or its monthly burn. The most recent figure made public, dating to December 2024, put monthly burn at roughly $900,000 once salaries had been adjusted. Talk of a $132 million total funding figure has circulated, but cumulative funding reported in 2024 sat closer to $60 million, with Illuvium’s NFT land sales bringing in $72 million back in 2022. Those numbers, however, blend proceeds from customer land sales with reported funding — two separate things.
Recent governance disclosures show that conversations covering operating costs and restructuring have been placed behind nondisclosure agreements. July’s meeting minutes contain no specific financial detail, which makes it harder to gauge where Illuvium actually stands.
Focus on the MMO and upcoming releases
Governance documents published in February set out a narrower scope for the MMO, leaning on assets the studio already has and pushing planned player-versus-player features to a post-launch window. Warwick added that 2026 will also bring smaller releases: the final Celebrations collection from Beyond Set 1, Primal Tactica, and Loadout.
Built by an outside studio working under a license for Illuvium's intellectual property, Primal Tactica will appear at Steam Next Fest in October, with early access to follow later in the fourth quarter. As for Loadout, Warwick said it will direct tokens to the Illuvium staking contract as an incentive for ILV and ILV-ETH stakers, although no launch date has been given.
The picture that emerges is of a studio that has narrowed its aim to the MMO and is spending carefully — an approach meant to steady Illuvium while questions around its funding remain unresolved.
