Twenty million pounds. Nearly 50,000 backers. A funding goal cleared in five minutes.
Those are the Kickstarter numbers behind Cyberpunk: The Trading Card Game — the platform’s most funded TCG ever — and it arrives October 1.
Made in collaboration with CD Projekt Red and built by WEIRDCO, the game pitches itself as “bringing high-stakes two-player battles, neon-soaked artwork and plenty for collectors to chase”. Demand on that scale speaks for itself. This is less a routine TCG release than a landmark for the hobby.
The comeback nobody saw coming
Rewind to December 2020 and it’s almost surreal: huge numbers of players were requesting refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 after hitting game-breaking bugs and glitches at launch.
The PlayStation Store and other digital storefronts removed the CD Projekt RED title from sale entirely. It took a run of patches before the thing was even playable.
Six years on, Cyberpunk 2077 sits comfortably among the greatest RPGs ever made — a turnaround earned through the relentless graft and commitment of CD Projekt RED.
Patch after patch. Updates that never stopped. And Phantom Liberty, an award-winning DLC that rewrote the narrative around the game completely.
These days the game is thriving, and it’s drawing other studios, developers and creators into its gravity.
Night City is everywhere already
Team-ups with Epic Games and Kuro Games have already dropped Cyberpunk into Fortnite and Wuthering Waves.
The franchise has stretched further still, into coffee, official merch, graphic novels, arcade cabinets and no shortage of things in between.
Drawing on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk TTRPG universe, CDPR realised Night City so vividly that the wider games industry wanted in. The trading card game is simply the newest arrival.
What you can actually buy
GAME is taking pre-orders, with four products up for grabs.
The line-up covers the Cyberpunk TCG Set 01 The Heist Starter Deck, the Cyberpunk TCG Set 01 Booster Pack, the Cyberpunk TCG Set 01 Welcome to Night City Embrace Power Starter Deck, and the Cyberpunk TCG Welcome to Night City Display, which contains 24 booster packs.
A single booster pack costs £4.99, while Starter Decks come in at £29.99. The Display sits at the top of the range for £119.99.
Price isn’t really the draw here. Study the artwork — a lot of it holographic — and the sheer amount of detail poured into these cards is obvious.
TCGs generally aren’t my thing. This one still has me tempted.
Chasing the rare stuff
There’s a spread of rarities waiting to be hunted down, and that’s the make-or-break element for any card game: it either keeps you invested for years or burns out by Sunday night.
With the Kickstarter blowing past its target as quickly as it did, expect the chase cards to dominate every conversation once October rolls around.
Six years ago, the refund forms were flying. Today the same audience is dropping £119.99 on a box of cardboard from that same world — and clearing stock in five-minute windows.
Night City always did reward the people who stuck around.
