In Brief:
- Nine Chronicles (official site) has rebuilt Adventure Boss, the raid mode funded by player bounties, and slotted in a fresh boss drop called Distorted Essence.
- Five stats benefit from Distorted Essence: Attack, Defense, HP, Hit and Speed. Arriving alongside it are 25 new Collections.
- AP potions and NCG leave the economy largely through Adventure Boss, and the mode’s payouts have been re-balanced several times since it launched.
Nine Chronicles has overhauled Adventure Boss and rolled out a new boss drop, Distorted Essence, which players farm to boost five stats: Attack, Defense, HP, Hit and Speed.
Word of the change came from the team on X. “The Adventure Boss has received a major rework!” the post said, urging players to “Defeat powerful bosses to collect Distorted Essence and strengthen your journey.”

Bundled into the same patch are 25 new Collections.
Left unanswered by the announcement: how much Distorted Essence a single stat point requires, whether the gains run into a cap, and whether the material survives from one season to the next. The bosses that actually drop it weren’t named either.
How the mode works
Rather than following a fixed timetable, Adventure Boss is driven by player spending. Every two days a new boss becomes available, yet nothing kicks off until a bounty is placed — and per the game’s documentation, only players who have hit Monster Collection Level 3 (5,000 NCG) are eligible to place one.
The moment that bounty is posted, the boss is revealed and a four-hour window opens for everyone else to jump in.
Twenty floors await, challengeable five at a time, with AP potions as the cost of entry. Unique rewards come from first clears. Repeating floors builds up points that feed contribution rewards, and the final pool swells in proportion to how many AP potions the playerbase burns through.
The design hinges on that division between two kinds of player. Operating users fund the bounty and unlock the content. Participating users do the fighting and walk away with a cut sized to their contribution.
A mode that keeps getting retuned
Distorted Essence joins a lengthy list of revisions to what Adventure Boss hands out.
Emerald Dust arrived through the mode, and it summons Grimoire equipment — an eighth gear slot whose abilities cover attack, defense and more. The mode also supplies exclusive runes that raise Cri, Hit and Spd while demanding fewer crystals and less NCG to upgrade. In many cases Grimoire shows up only as a seasonal reward.
On the upper floors, first-clear Yggdrasil stat runes were revised, and four Mythic-grade runes were introduced, each tied to whichever type of Adventure Boss is in rotation. For balance reasons, Mythic runes stop at level 150.
The payout method shifted away from rankings toward dividing the whole pool according to contribution. Rather than bulk payouts, players now claim their share individually over the two-week off-season.
NCIP-21 revised how seasonal bosses are picked, ruling out any boss that turned up in the two previous rotations.
Collections, for their part, have repeatedly served as the delivery mechanism for new content. An earlier build, v200450, brought 30 stages spanning 471 to 500, Grade 8 Transcendence equipment and new Collections, plus new items and active skills.
The pass economy draws on Adventure Boss as well. The Season Pass got a new name but kept its functionality, resets each month and distributes extra rune shards sourced from Adventure Bosses and Monster Collections. An additional Grade 8 Transcendent rune was folded in as both a Monster Collection reward and an Adventure Boss pass reward.
