Somewhere inside CD Projekt Red, over 30 people are building a game the outside world knows nothing about. The studio wants that headcount to climb.

Speaking to investors on Wednesday’s earnings call, CD Projekt Red vice president of investor relations Karolina Gnas said the group working on the unannounced ‘Project Hadar’ intends “to hire more, up to 50 developers by the end of this year.”

And that’s it. One hiring figure, one code name, nothing further.

What Hadar actually is right now

Very little, if you go by the studio’s own account. “Right now, the team is mostly focused on testing different approaches, ideas, and, you know, prototyping some gameplay element, and this is it,” Gnas said. “Hadar is still in the concept phase.”

Which is to say: nobody should be pencilling in a launch window. At a studio of this scale, the concept phase looks like people in rooms arguing over what the thing should feel like.

Trying to pin down the genre is futile. The Witcher is a third-person fantasy RPG; Cyberpunk is a first-person RPG shooter. CDPR has shipped both, so the only reliable assumption is that Hadar will be an RPG of some caliber.

The Witcher 1 remake got pushed aside

The company also confirmed that its remake of The Witcher 1 has been shelved for now. Those resources are being redirected toward The Witcher 4, which CDPR is aiming to release in 2028, and toward Songs of the Past, the Witcher 3 expansion revealed a full ten years after the original game launched.

Parking a remake to strengthen the mainline sequel is a defensible call. It also underlines just how much work this studio has piled up.

The full pile of in-development projects

Run through the list. The Witcher 3 Remastered arrives this month, The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is on the way, The Witcher 4 is aiming for 2028, a Cyberpunk sequel is in development, the Witcher 1 remake is paused rather than cancelled, and Project Hadar sits at the concept stage behind everything else.

As for the remaster, it lands with the detail players actually asked about: anyone who already owns the game gets the upgrade at no cost, and existing save files carry over.

That single detail tells you more about the image CDPR is chasing at the moment than any code name could.
