The prize split
In a follow-up post, the studio said an Arcade leaderboard will run during the event. Attempts are unlimited, and each player’s best run is the one that counts.
The winner takes 10 Bronze Seed Packs. Second and third place receive five packs each, fourth through 10th get two each, and 11th through 50th get one apiece, which adds up to 74 seed packs.
Players register at the booth. They can scan a QR code, or choose a username and enter a wallet address while they play.
Booth sessions
MoG won’t be on the floor for the whole day. The studio posted these session times in India Standard Time: noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3; 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4; 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5; and 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 6.
The game is free, but the venue isn’t. “A valid Devcon ticket is required to enter the venue,” the studio said, and it sent questions to @heynejc.
Ties to Yield Fields
The Devcon prize pool adds another connection between MoG and Yield Fields, a farming game that sums itself up as “Rip packs, plant crops, harvest the yield.” Yield Fields is live on Robinhood.
The pair already teamed up for Deed Season, an 11-day Maze of Gains x Yield Fields event that ran from Sept. 17 to Sept. 28 and offered 850 whitelist spots for the Deed mint. Players collected Golden Corn by smashing Corn Stalks in Arcade or Expedition runs. Afterward, the studio posted that $6,000,000 was spent on Deed season.
The Deeds mint then shifted to Robinhood Chain, starting with a gated mint on Oct. 12 and a public auction on Oct. 13.
Abstract is shutting down
The Mumbai trip comes at an uncertain time for the franchise. Igloo Inc. said on Oct. 6 that its Abstract chain will go dark on Dec. 15. Abstract is home to the Onchain Heroes idle RPG, Maze of Gains and VALOR, a dollar-pegged stablecoin.
“Abstract is winding down, but your Ringbearers, heroes, and MoG keys are safe,” the studio wrote in its Oct. 8 patch notes. “No action needed for now, and we’ll share next steps soon.”
That patch also retired Marbles, the Abstract XP path, and refunded Expedition Passes in VALOR on a pro rata basis. For that week, the studio reported 1,837 runs, 23,601 keys burned and a weekly prize pool of $16,521.
Background
Maze of Gains is a turn-based roguelike dungeon crawler set in the Onchain Heroes universe. Its creator is Skarly, who worked on Wolf Game before this. The studio rebuilt the game as MoG 2.0 and launched the new version with Dragma Unleashed, an event that ran through Sept. 3.
Devcon leaderboard spots can’t be traded, and players don’t have to travel to play. The studio said anyone who can’t make it to Mumbai can play Maze of Gains online at any time.
