Geralt of Rivia is heading to Fortnite. Not to a Witcher title — to Fortnite, posed on key art beside Master Chief.
That’s what the August 20 return actually amounts to, and it’s worth being precise about what it is and isn’t, because two Witcher 3 storylines are unfolding at once right now and they’re easy to tangle up.
What’s actually landing on the 20th
Override — the current title of Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4 — arrives August 20 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, iOS and Android. Tentatively, the chapter is expected to wrap up in December of this year.
Rather than centering a season on one franchise, Epic went wide. The target this time is video games as a whole.
Geralt takes the spotlight on the season’s key artwork, flanked by Lara Croft, Ryu, Master Chief and Sora, all of whom will turn up in some capacity.

The map is doing the heavy lifting too
The collaboration’s marquee franchises go well beyond cosmetics. They’re shaping map elements as well, with Sonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone set to feature in some capacity.
There’s also a Pac-Man-inspired area to explore, while Mega Man and Eggman both appear in the trailer.
It adds up to the most ambitious season Fortnite has attempted — a line that gets tossed around every few months, except the guest list actually backs it up here.

Now the DLC, which is a different thing entirely
The Witcher 3 launched over a decade ago, yet it’s firmly back in the conversation, because CD Projekt Red has announced another full story DLC. Thousands of players are waiting to see what the studio has been cooking up.
It’s called Songs of the Past, and nothing has been given for a release date beyond 2027.
A full reveal still hasn’t happened. What’s known is that it’s supposedly designed to bridge the narrative gap between the last game and the upcoming release of The Witcher 4, which will be fronted by Ciri.

Why Geralt’s timing here matters
Songs of the Past is currently framed as his last DLC as protagonist of the series. So right before what may be Geralt’s final appearance in the franchise, he’s showing up somewhere completely different, joining a long pantheon of game characters who’ve made that journey before him.
Gamescom later this month could bring more information. CD Projekt Red may just as easily hold off for a dedicated moment of its own and a proper full reveal.
Which means the next time Geralt shows up, chances are he’ll be dropping out of a battle bus somewhere near Green Hill Zone.
