HYTOPIA Co-Founder ArkDev Pitches a New Exploration Game After the Platform’s Collapse

hytopia co founder arkdev pitches a new exploration game after the platforms collapse In Brief:

In Brief:

  • HYTOPIA co-founder ArkDev has floated a free-to-play exploration title that blends building, character progression and an equipment-driven economy.
  • Expeditions would send players into randomly generated worlds, putting resources and gear on the line as their skills grow.
  • The concept is currently open to community feedback, with no production commitment or release timeline attached.

Exploration game idea from ArkDev

Following the collapse of HYTOPIA, ArkDev has sketched out what a new exploration game could look like. The free-to-play concept pulls threads from Minecraft, RuneScape and Path of Exile, with character progression and an equipment-led economy at its core.

The proposal is anchored by a permanent home world, a place to build, stash items and craft gear. That central hub grows alongside the player’s character, serving as a base for both development and exploration.

From there, players would set out on expeditions into randomly generated 1024-by-1024 environments packed with varied biomes, wildlife, caves, ruins and dungeons. Access runs through an NPC caravan guide, letting players hunt for materials and equipment before making the trip home.

Deciding when to turn back is the crux of the design. Death on an expedition wipes out everything gathered during the run, though equipment and skills survive the trip — a setup that keeps the stakes high without setting back long-term character development.

Progression borrows from RuneScape: abilities such as mining, fishing and crafting improve through use, with 99 standing as the maximum level. Higher skills would translate into better movement, survival and resource gathering.

On the loot side, a Path of Exile-style system layers random modifiers onto items to widen their usefulness in play. Gear can be found out in the world or crafted, and players are able to trade items between themselves.

Handcrafted dungeons and challenges are also on the list, giving players objectives and rewards that feed back into stronger characters and better items.

Support is planned for browsers and mobile alike, with solo runs or co-op sessions of up to eight players. Characters and their equipment would carry over unchanged between those multiplayer modes.

The pitch reflects lessons taken from NFTs Worlds, the project that became HYTOPIA after Minecraft shut the door on blockchain in July 2022. HYTOPIA set out to build a complex standalone platform, but execution proved difficult — and that difficulty is what has opened this new exploratory chapter.

For now ArkDev’s plan marks a change of direction rather than a decision, with community input still to come before anything moves ahead.
