upland rolls out phase one of its visual upgrade early citing troves In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Upland (official site) announced that its visual upgrade is now live, having been released early for Troves, and players can enable it through the Settings menu in the app.
  • According to the studio, this is phase one, with further improvements and automatic device-based optimization still on the way.
  • The launch builds on a visual overhaul Upland first detailed in late 2025, covering roads, property textures, new ownership outlines and atmospheric effects.

Upland has switched on its visual upgrade.

In a post on X, the studio said the upgrade had been “released early for Troves.” The new look is not enabled automatically, so anyone who wants it must activate it manually from the Settings menu within the app.

Opt-in only at launch

At this stage, players won’t see the upgrade unless they enable it themselves. Upland has not given a timeline for the automatic device-based optimization, nor has it specified which hardware this first phase targets.

While the studio promised additional work, it did not outline what the next set of improvements will include. Instead, the post directed players to a separate breakdown and a video showing the upgrade.

A plan first laid out in December 2025

It was in December 2025 that Upland first described a complete visual overhaul, which the studio characterized as the most significant visual overhaul since the game’s inception.

The plan was built around four core elements: enhanced property colors paired with clean, consistent ownership outlines; textures on property surfaces; road layouts across all cities; and atmospheric effects such as haze and weather conditions.

The meaning behind property colors would stay the same, with green still signaling that a property is for sale. However, Upland said the colors would “appear less bright, with a more balanced tone that better fits the evolving aesthetic of Upland.”

Instead of being filled in solid blue, owned properties will now be marked by a blue outline. In POV mode, players would also notice atmospheric haze along the distant horizon.

In its 2025 year-end recap, Upland stated that the map “will get a visual upgrade by the end of the year with roads, atmosphere effects, and upcoming weather systems.” The studio said at the time that the changes would be rolled out over its Wonderland season, which lasted from Dec. 1 to Jan. 15.

Troves

Upland pointed to Troves as the reason the upgrade arrived early. The studio detailed the system in a May 26, 2026, post that described Troves as a layer linking location-based actions to rewards and progression.

Troves can be earned through plant care, exploration, structures and activities. Upland has said that fishing, farming, trade routes, racing and treasure hunting will be added down the line.

Players take their Troves to service structures, where they serve as inputs for recipes. Those recipes can yield rare Troves, SPARKLET, UPX, STEM, yield and other rewards. Uppies can also ask for specific Troves.

The Troves a player comes across depend on their location on the map and the Block Explorer they’re using, with a Block Explorer’s stamina limiting how many Troves it can gather.

Troves ran in alpha form during Genesis Week 2026. Upland had earlier said that Troves, together with Trove Banking and a new Progression system, would launch before Harvest Season begins Oct. 1.

In its May post, the studio captured the design philosophy in a single line: “Almost anything in Upland can become an output, and almost any output can become an input somewhere else.”
