In Brief:
- Starting Oct. 20, EVE Frontier (official site) will host Feral Surge, a community event lasting one week.
- Every player kill feeds into a single goal shared across the server. Missions, Grace rewards and wreckage searches are also part of the event.
- Feral Surge falls partway through Cycle 7: Vestiges, which started Sept. 29 and reworked the game’s Feral Drones.
Feral Surge goes live in EVE Frontier on Oct. 20. The weeklong combat event sends players out of their Refuges to track down Feral Drones, with each kill adding to a single target the entire community is chasing together.
In a post on X, the EVE Frontier team wrote: “FERAL SURGE begins 20 October. A week-long event where every kill brings the community closer to its shared goal.”
A FERAL TIDE IS RISING.
Arm your ship. Leave your Refuge. Hunt them down.

The post didn’t say how large the kill target is, and it didn’t say what the community earns for hitting it.
Missions, Grace and wreckage
The announcement named three activities: “Complete missions. Earn Grace. Search the wreckage.”
Grace is what players earn over the course of the event. The team hasn’t said how much Grace a single mission or kill awards, and it hasn’t said what loot turns up in the wreckage.
“Arm your ship. Leave your Refuge. Hunt them down,” the team wrote.
On the official EVE Frontier site, the event page is titled “Ferality Suppression Surge” and carries the tagline “Help us break the servers!” As of Friday, the page showed no dates, mechanics or rewards.
Drones that play by player rules
These targets aren’t the same enemy players fought in earlier cycles. When Cycle 7: Vestiges launched Sept. 29, Fenris Creations rebuilt the Feral Drones so that they follow the same rules players do.
The drones now scan, travel, mine, salvage and scavenge for resources on their own, and they respond to what players are doing near them.
Flight also got an overhaul in Cycle 7. Ships can now strafe and roll, and a new Aim Flight mode lets players steer and aim weapons separately. A ship’s thrusters and engines now determine its acceleration, fuel efficiency and handling.
The cycle also introduced physical docking, in which ships attach to structure ports and remain visible in space. On top of that, it added multi-star systems with stacked environmental hazards and reset the universe for new and returning players.
Mid-cycle update still pending
Feral Surge comes ahead of Cycle 7’s mid-cycle release. The team said on Oct. 14: “We’re well in to Cycle 7 now, and the work continues towards the mid-cycle release!”
According to the studio’s July video roadmap, the October patch will deliver full ship and structure modularity, temporary teams and shared storage. The same roadmap scheduled Cycle 8 for December, with community and social tools as its focus.
Background
EVE Frontier remains in paid Founder Access, and the server is wiped when each cycle ends. The FAQ states that “The launch date of EVE Frontier has not yet been announced,” and the game has been confirmed as free to play at launch.
The game migrated to Sui on March 11, the day Cycle 5: Shroud of Fear went live. Cycle 6: Sanctuary arrived June 25 with a full wipe and a five-day free trial.
On May 6, the developer renamed itself Fenris Creations. That came a week after Pearl Abyss sold CCP Games back to the studio’s leadership in a deal that also gave Google a minority stake.
In March, Fenris and Sui hosted an $80,000 EVE Frontier hackathon that drew more than 800 participants and produced over 120 projects. The $25,000 grand prize went to CradleOS by modder Reality Anchor, a system that lets players run their own civilizations.
The team closed its Feral Surge announcement with four words: “Every kill counts.”
