Ronin drops yearly RON emissions to 5M, its lowest rate ever, and sends all of it to builders

ronin drops yearly ron emissions to 5m its lowest rate ever and sends In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Since moving to Ethereum, Ronin has cut annual RON emissions from 45M RON to 5M RON, which it says is an 89% reduction.
  • Proof of Distribution sends the full 5M RON yearly allotment to builders. Staking RON for rewards is no longer possible.
  • Ronin says the new rate is the lowest it has ever had, with annual inflation at about 1.2%.

Ronin posted on X that RON emissions have reached the lowest point in the network’s history.

“Since Ronin moved to Ethereum, annual emissions have dropped from 45M RON to 5M RON, an 89% reduction,” Ronin said.

RON emissions are now at their lowest level in Ronin's history.
Since Ronin moved to Ethereum, annual emissions have dropped from 45M RON to 5M RON, an 89% reduction.
The remaining 5M RON per year goes toward rewarding builders through Proof of Distribution.

Builders now receive the whole 5M RON a year. Validators and stakers have been cut out. In a blog post, Ronin said this works out to inflation of roughly 1.2% annually.

How the RON is distributed

Emissions are paid out through Proof of Distribution, a reward system Ronin launched with its Ethereum migration. Registered projects submit their smart contracts and get paid according to how much activity those contracts generate.

According to Ronin, builders receive 416K RON each month. A builder score sets each project’s share. The score looks at gas spend, active users with more than 10 RON, new users with more than 10 RON, NFT and DEX volume, and smart contract volume.

When it announced the leaderboard, Ronin wrote: “The metrics and weighting for the builder score calculation was done via an AI-powered analysis of the metrics that most align with $RON’s success.”

The team expects the formula to change. “This scoring mechanism will be an evolving process and will be adjusted based on the behaviors we observe,” Ronin said.

Payouts happen once a month and use data from the prior four weeks. To sign up, a builder connects a Ronin Wallet on the Proof of Distribution site and submits their contract addresses.

Staking rewards are gone

RON holders lost passive staking income as part of the change.

Ronin’s migration blog post put it plainly: “There’s currently no way to stake your RON and earn rewards. All rewards will flow directly to builders.”

Ronin said it settled on the Proof of Distribution metrics because “those metrics correlated strongest with the market cap of RON.”

New revenue for the treasury

The treasury changed too. Ronin shifted the 90M RON still reserved for staking into the treasury.

Net sequencer profits now go to the treasury as well. Ronin calculates these as total gas revenue minus blob fees and expenses. Ronin Marketplace fees rose from 0.5% to 1.25%, and that money also lands in the treasury.

Background

On May 12, 2026, Ronin dropped its sovereign L1 setup to become an Ethereum layer 2. It now runs on the OP Stack.

Conduit handled the technical side of the move, which Ronin called “the largest state migration in history.” RON is still the gas token.

Ahead of the migration, Ronin was set to emit 45M RON a year in rewards. Its blog sums up the new model for builders in one line: “The more you build, the more you earn.”
