Verse8’s game builder now carries Azuki IP. In a post on X, the project confirmed the IP is “now registered and remixable” on the platform, where users generate multiplayer 2D and 3D games from natural language prompts.
The rollout delivers on a partnership originally revealed Sept. 23, 2025, when Story and Verse8 announced that the Azuki and Moonbirds collections would arrive in the builder. Licensing sits with Story, which registers and manages IP usage on its Layer-1.

How the licensing works
Anything built inside Verse8 is registered, attributed and governed on-chain via Story’s programmable licensing system. That lets creators drop Azuki characters into fresh environments, customize them, and earn through in-game purchases or branded expansions.
The revenue split happens automatically, with programmable royalties directing payment to the creator, to the original NFT holder and to the brand.
Verse8 frames the whole thing as “IP Legos” — users piece together characters, quests and game mechanics from the available parts. Coding isn’t required.
Verse8 CEO Kevin Lee said Story delivered “the missing layer we needed,” characterizing it as “trusted licensing infrastructure that works in real time, at scale, for user-generated content.” Remixing characters, building quests and sharing games can now respect rights, share value and evolve IP organically, he said, terming the result IP-native worldbuilding.
The platform
Behind Verse8 is co-creator Jake Song, the Nexon co-founder responsible for the Lineage MMORPG. Planetarium Labs backs it alongside other industry partners.
Proprietary technology on the platform constructs 3D assets from a single image, and a generative agent named Agent 8 handles code, art and audio. Beta status notwithstanding, it reported thousands of creators and more than 800,000 monthly active users as of the September announcement.
Story, whose mainnet went live in early 2025, has raised $136 million from a16z, Polychain and Samsung Ventures. The tie-up was unveiled at Origin Summit in Seoul, an event Story co-hosted with Blockworks and Korea Economic Daily during Korea Blockchain Week.
The IP argument
Story co-founder S.Y. Lee said “IP isn’t meant to sit still.” His argument: programmable infrastructure turns IP interactive, remixable and composable, a fit for a world where culture gets built by communities and powered by agents. Verse8, in his view, offers a preview of that future by letting anyone build multiplayer games with IP they love on rails that respect rights and trace value.
Moonbirds is part of the same integration. Its CEO, Spencer Gordon-Sand, called it “such a strong IP” and highlighted a community that includes technologists working at the front of the AI wave.
The step continues a long-running stance on community authorship for Azuki. Derivative work and fan-built canon have underpinned the collection since its earliest days, and this adds a payment rail beneath that.
Zagabond, Azuki founder and Chiru Labs CEO, said: “Azuki has always believed in empowering our community to co-create stories. With Verse8 and Story, that vision continues to be realized.”
He added: “Fans can now build entire playable worlds with Azuki IP onchain.”
