Hideo Kojima has found his leading man. Bill Skarsgård was confirmed Thursday as the star of PHYSINT during the XBox Tokyo Game Show 2026 stream.
Kojima used the slot to check in on both projects currently in the works at Kojima Productions, and the PHYSINT announcement arrived with artwork attached: a fresh poster showing Skarsgård next to Charlee Fraser.
The announcement comes seven days after a shake-up in who is actually putting the game out. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced it will no longer publish the action espionage title, and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios said the same day that it was picking up publishing duties.
Outside of the lead role, Kojima noted that the team is advancing on casting, talent scans and partnerships with creators from outside the studio.
OD KNOCK is moving again
The update on the studio’s horror title was the more workmanlike of the two. According to Kojima, performance capture and ADR recording have started back up after a pause during the SAG strike, with production “proceeding on schedule.”
That project is also being developed by Kojima and Kojima Productions alongside Xbox Game Studios.
The Death Stranding paper trail
A bit of background on where the studio has been. Death Stranding released on PlayStation 4 in November 2019 and followed on PC through Steam in July 2020, pushed back from a June 2020 date because of COVID-19.
The PlayStation 5 edition, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, arrived in September 2021 before landing on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store in March 2022.
Death Stranding: On the Beach, the sequel, came to PlayStation 5 in June 2025 and reached PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on March 19.
And then there’s everything else
Hammerstone Studios — the company behind Barbarian and Bill and Ted Face the Music — has a film adaptation in development. Michael Sarnoski, director of Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, is attached to write and direct.
On a separate track, the franchise has spawned an adult animated feature that takes place in the game’s universe but tells an original story. Directing is Hiroshi Miyamoto, whose resume includes Eiga Precure Dream Stars! and Hugtto! Precure Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories, with ABC ANIMATION STUDIO handling production under the working title DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO.
And one more, again unrelated to the others: Death Stranding Isolations, an anime series slated for 2027 on Disney+.
