Thirteen million dollars. That is the sum fans poured into a tabletop game inspired by a book series about a man in his underwear and a cat wearing a tiara — and it is why Renegade Game Studios is now staring down a fulfillment backlog measured in six to eight weeks of shipping.
November 2026 is when the official Dungeon Crawler Carl Roleplaying Game reaches retail shelves. It is the franchise’s next major release, and the first one that puts you inside the World Dungeon rather than leaving you to watch Carl navigate it.
The backers go first, but not all at once
According to Renegade, physical crowdfunding fulfillment kicks off in October 2026. Volume is the complication. The sheer number of orders means the studio anticipates the process dragging out over roughly six to eight weeks, rather than every backer ripping open a box on the same afternoon.
October delivery was the campaign’s original target, with Renegade hoping backers would have dice in hand by Thanksgiving. Eligible backers have already begun receiving digital versions of the RPG materials ahead of the physical shipments.
Anyone who skipped the campaign will not be waiting much longer. Renegade has the roleplaying game and its companion products slated for a November 2026 retail release, with the company pointing to late November for the broader launch. Preorders are already open for the Core Rulebook and Starter Set, alongside miniatures, dice, a GM screen and assorted accessories.
You can be Carl, or you can be nobody
A skill-based system underpins the game, designed to reproduce the lethal televised dungeon of the novels. You can take on the role of Carl, Princess Donut, Florin or Prepotente, or assemble an original crawler from dozens of races, classes, backgrounds and skills.
The campaigns incorporate the machinery that drives the books: achievements, viewers and followers, loot boxes, crafting, bosses, rival crawlers, gods, factions and the System AI looming over everything. Renegade also has expansions in the works, plus a digital Season Pass that runs from November 2026 through October 2027.
The other game nobody’s talking about yet
That same crowdfunding campaign also funded Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, a cooperative card-crafting game for one or two players from designer John D. Clair. Players begin with either Carl or Donut and physically upgrade sleeved cards as they push further into the dungeon.
Floors one through three are covered by the base game. The Fourth Floor arrives via the Iron Tangle expansion, while Crawler Chaos adds more playable characters. Unstoppable is likewise due at retail in November 2026.
How a niche LitRPG series got this big
Only a few years ago, Matt Dinniman’s books occupied a fairly obscure pocket of LitRPG. Then the novels and Jeff Hays' audiobooks took off in tandem, and the eighth entry, A Parade of Horribles, arrived as an instant #1 New York Times bestseller following its May 2026 release.
The main storyline is drawing to a close. Dinniman is at work on Book 9, currently titled The Beautiful Place, which is expected to wrap up the series over two physical volumes. The IP, by contrast, is expanding rather than contracting, with a push across multiple mediums in the years ahead.
So the conclusion of Carl’s story and the start of your own land only months apart. Dinniman clears the dungeon. Then the dice and a character sheet — with a line for your follower count — get handed to you.
