September 16 marks the close of Reacher Season 4 — and the launch of what follows it. Eight episodes, all released together, nothing to wait for.
Prime Video won’t leave you a single night to feel his absence. The finale passes the torch directly to Neagley, a spin-off set within Lee Child’s universe that shows up complete on day one.
Why she’s been missing all season
Season 4 has kept Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) tangled in a high-stakes conspiracy across Philadelphia, with Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) nowhere in sight. Everyone figured she had other business. She did — she was building an operation of her own.
A former Master Sergeant out of the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit, Neagley moved into the private sector and now works as a private investigator in Chicago. Ever since her franchise debut in the show’s fifth episode she’s been the sharpest mind anywhere near Reacher, and Sten has spent three seasons quietly walking off with scenes in the role.
She’s clear of his shadow now, dragged back in by a death from her past that doesn’t sit right.
The case that starts it
A close friend of Neagley’s is found dead on train tracks in Chicago, the death written off as a drug-related suicide. She isn’t buying it. The moment she starts putting questions to people at the scene, she becomes the target of a conspiracy that stretches well beyond a single body.
Readers of Child’s novels will recognise the outline: a formidable investigator operating at the edge of the law, happy to bend the rules when the facts refuse to line up.
One difference matters, though, and it’s what gives the series something Reacher lacks. Neagley isn’t wandering between towns. Chicago is home. She has a job, people in her life and her own way of working — an anchor Reacher has never had any interest in.
No homework required
Behind on your Reacher lore? It won’t matter. The show inherits the franchise’s hard-hitting DNA while functioning as a standalone thriller, so newcomers can start here.
The same goes for the story. Ritchson is confirmed for an appearance as the big guy, but none of the eight episodes adapt a specific Child novel. It’s an entirely original plot, which leaves everyone in uncharted territory — even the readers who have done all the homework.
Child, for his part, is writing a standalone Neagley novel, Zero Margin, arriving in 2027 once the show has aired.
The people behind it are the same people
Nick Santora, the mind behind Reacher, co-created the spin-off alongside Nicholas Wootton. Sam Hill, a Reacher directing veteran, took the first two episodes. Child remains closely involved as an executive producer.
Of everyone in the books, she’s also the most obvious candidate for a spin-off — one of the rare few Reacher actually trusts, and a figure who has taken up more and more room in the novels over the years.
Neagley arrives Wednesday, September 16, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video, with the full eight-episode run available that day. Reacher Season 4’s eighth and final episode lands on the same date. Wrap up one, roll straight into the other.
