off the grid 1 0 moves to the holidays as gunzilla reports 164 fps and 35 better retention In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Off The Grid (official site) will see its 1.0 release when it “lands over the holidays,” according to Gunzilla Games. The studio’s May roadmap had aimed for October 2026.
  • Gunzilla said that over the last five months, performance on an RTX 2060 went from 42 to 164 FPS, while four-week retention rose 35%.
  • The studio’s own anti-cheat, Kestrel, now runs on every server. Teardrop Island saw its first ban wave on Oct. 21.

The game’s official account has said Off The Grid will get its full release over the holidays. That lands 1.0 later than the October window in the roadmap Gunzilla Games published earlier this year.

No specific date was given. The post instead ran through the work the studio said it had delivered since the roadmap came out.

The numbers

The biggest performance claim was about mid-range PCs. Gunzilla said the game went from “42 → 164 FPS on the same RTX 2060.”

The studio also reported a 35% rise in four-week retention and said 11 roadmap promises have shipped. It didn’t give the baseline for the retention number.

Back in July, Gunzilla said a performance patch had brought frame-rate gains of up to 100 FPS on lower-end hardware.

Kestrel and the first bans

On anti-cheat, the post said Kestrel is “LIVE on every server, and the first ban wave landed a week later.”

Gunzilla revealed Kestrel on Oct. 9. It uses machine learning to learn each player’s motor signature and flag input that comes from cheat software. It went into beta inside Off The Grid, and third parties can integrate it.

Gunzilla built Kestrel itself. It works alongside Easy Anti-Cheat, which is listed on the game’s Steam page as its kernel-level anti-cheat.

Teardrop Island got its first live ban wave on Oct. 21. No accounts were banned until Kestrel had finished a passive telemetry phase, which Gunzilla said looked at more than 15 billion gameplay data segments across its match network. There are three tiers of penalties.

According to Gunzilla, Kestrel is active 24/7 in every Teardrop match. In a clip from the GUNZ account, cheaters get a five-second warning before the system acts.

The original schedule

The 2026 roadmap went up on May 29. It set out five phases running from June to October, with early access ending on the game’s second anniversary alongside the 1.0 public release.

Early access started on Oct. 8, 2024, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. On all three platforms, the official account still describes the game as early access.

Roadmap items included engine optimizations, weapon and progression updates, a rebuilt marketplace, new Legendary Weapons, proximity voice chat and a bigger map.

Phase 04, due in September, combined the new AI anti-cheat with a full move to the GUNZ mainnet. Phase 05, planned for October, was meant to add a creator and streamer marketing push tied to the start of Ranked Season 3, ahead of 1.0.

The FAQ on Gunzilla’s site still gives October 2026 as the full release date.

This isn’t the first delay. Off The Grid was first meant to come out in 2023.

The holiday announcement started with one line in capitals: “1.0 LANDS OVER THE HOLIDAYS.”
