In Brief:
- Portal is picking 20 creators to get early access to Gen8, an engine the company says is nearly ready to ship.
- The chosen creators will make games side by side with the team and help steer Portal’s dev tools.
- Gen8 lands third on the Portal 2.0 roadmap, arriving after Studio (official site) and Nexus, which went live in late July.
Ahead of the product’s release, Portal has put out a call for 20 creators to take early access to Gen8, its integrated game engine.
“We’re almost ready to launch our next product, Portal Gen8, and we need your help, the best community! We’re selecting 20 creators to get early access, create games alongside us, and directly shape the future of our dev tools,” the company said in a post on its X account.

Eligibility is laid out in the same post, which opens with the line “If you have a game.” No deadline or selection date appears in the opening of the announcement.
What Gen8 does
By Portal’s description, Gen8 lets you describe a game and then hand orchestration over to plan, build and iterate a playable experience. It occupies the shipping end of the company’s three-part stack.
The workspace is Studio. There, creators prompt agents for characters, tiles and sprites, preview the results before committing them and pull them into a project. Studio also includes guided milestones for getting a real game out the door with agents in the loop, whether builds are pushed to an outside engine or made on Gen8.
Underneath sits Nexus, the routing layer. Portal released it in late July at nexus.portalgaming.com, having teased it since June under the working name GameRouter. Prompts are routed to specialized models for code, sprites and audio behind one API key and a single credit balance that covers 2D, 3D, voice, music and NPC tooling.
“Nexus is a unified API that powers your agents, assets, and pipelines across your entire game-dev stack,” Portal said in a June post.
At release, the company described it as “one control panel to access trending creation models for your game dev workflows.”
A single account covers all three products. Existing tools can also stay where they are: Claude Code, Cursor, Unity, Unreal or Godot can be connected so context carries across agents and engines. The API key requirement for agents running on Portal inference was dropped in a mid-June Studio update.
Third of four
On July 6, Portal hinted that a further product would follow Nexus by a few weeks, noting that the visual layer and the tools layer were already in hand.
Portal 2.0 was unveiled on April 18, a moment the company branded “Day 1.” The four products named at the time were Studio, GameRouter, GameGen for prompt-generated games and GameHub for monetization. GameRouter went out as Nexus. GameHub hasn’t arrived.
Across its first two years, Portal operated as an interoperability and liquidity layer for web3 gaming. The 2.0 pivot pointed the company toward AI-native tooling and creator-first workflows, aimed at non-developers as much as at established studios.
Who’s running it
The CEO is Benjamin Charbit, who stepped into the role in December 2025 when Portal merged with BLIFE Protocol. He previously served as a director at Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Announced on Dec. 22, 2025, the relaunch has backing from Animoca Brands Corporation Ltd, with G-20 as ecosystem and strategic partner. Animoca committed to supporting it with fresh capital and introductions across its gaming portfolio.
The token side
Revenue from the AI tools is earmarked for regular buybacks of PORTAL tokens. Holders are promised early access, advanced tool usage rights and voting rights.
The creators program ties that early-access promise to one specific cohort and one specific product, with the 20 picks working on the tooling directly before it opens more widely.
PORTAL put 50 million tokens into circulation via Binance Launchpool in February 2024, out of a total supply of 1 billion. Its all-time high of $3.36 came on Feb. 29, 2024, and it trades well below that level.
