Mythical Games recently announced a partnership with Pudgy Penguins to develop an AAA mobile party game based on the Penguins’ intellectual property.
Pudgy Penguins, launched on Ethereum in August 2021, is a collection of 8,888 NFTs with a total trading volume of $354 million and a current floor price of 1,1 ETH, approximately $41,000.
After the success of Pudgy Penguins, the team introduced an extension called Lil Pudgys in 2021, which consists of 22,222 NFTs. In 2022, CEO Luca Schnetzler acquired the brand for $2.5 million. Since then, the brand has been expanded to include physical Pudgy Penguins merchandise and plushies. The plushies alone achieved 1 million sales in just 12 months.
This partnership is a good fit for Mythical Games, known as a leading web3 game developer, especially in the mobile gaming sector with titles like NFL Rivals. Additionally, former Mythical executive Rudy Koch is an advisor to Pudgy Penguins. In addition to developing the mobile party game, Mythical Games is also working on a new mobile-first version of its PC party game Blankos Block Party, which was discontinued in 2023.
Pudgy Penguins is not sitting idle either. They are actively working on expanding their brand through the development of a social open-world game titled Pudgy World, which was unveiled in December 2023. The upcoming mobile party game by Mythical Games and Pudgy Penguins is set to launch on Mythos Chain. Currently, it is in the process of migrating to Polkadot and is expected to launch sometime in 2025.
