Ronin Unveils zkEVM Integration Plan for Gaming Blockchain

Ronin has announced its intention to integrate the zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) into its protocol. This strategic integration seeks to significantly enhance the scalability of the Ronin blockchain, making it more efficient and suitable for gaming applications.

After a comprehensive evaluation of various scalability solutions, including optimistic rollups and zero-knowledge aggregation, Phuc Thai, Ronin’s Chief Researcher, has pinpointed zkEVM as the optimal solution for the platform. The integration plans involve embedding a Zero-Knowledge (ZK) prover within the Ronin protocol, thereby offering ZK rollups as a service to developers. This initiative, dubbed “Enshrined zkEVMs,” is set to revolutionize the way developers utilize the Ronin platform, especially when facing blockspace capacity challenges.

Empowering Developers and Game Studios

By incorporating zkEVM, Ronin not only aims to streamline the development process on its platform but also to foster a more lucrative ecosystem for game studios and developers. The proposed system would enable studios to set up their own validator nodes and launch ZK rollups, creating a new revenue stream through transaction fees paid by users on their Layer 2 networks. This model promises to create a synergistic relationship between delegators, validators, users, builders, and RON token holders, aligning the interests of all parties involved.

Enhancements to Decentralized Applications

Beyond scalability, Ronin’s integration of zkEVM is expected to bring substantial improvements to its decentralized applications, such as the Katana Decentralized Exchange (DEX) and the Mavis Market. By reducing high slippage fees and enabling seamless bridging across rollups, these enhancements aim to provide a more user-friendly and cost-efficient experience. Additionally, Ronin is set to introduce a Cross-Chain Relayer Service to facilitate easier and more reliable cross-chain transactions, further strengthening its ecosystem.
