SHRAPNEL, a Web3-based AAA shooter game developed by a team with credits in Halo, Star Wars, and Assassin’s Creed, is set to become the first foreign game project licensed on China’s national blockchain for digital copyrights.

The partnership was announced following a formal agreement with the Trusted Copyright Chain, China’s official platform for Real World Asset (RWA) digital rights infrastructure.

Official Backing from China’s Copyright Institutions

On March 8, 2025, SHRAPNEL’s team and investors participated in the “Web3.0 Games and International Digital Copyright Cooperation” seminar in Beijing. The event, organized by the Beijing Copyright Association, marked a key moment in international collaboration on digital assets.

As part of the agreement, the Trusted Copyright Chain will authenticate SHRAPNEL’s in-game digital assets — including avatars, characters, and props — for secure issuance and legal trading in China. This move enables SHRAPNEL to legally enter the Chinese market as a compliant Web3 game, a milestone that could pave the way for future international projects.

Support from Major State Media and Platforms

In parallel, Lingjing People’s Game Labs, a division of People’s Daily, has entered into preliminary talks with SHRAPNEL to assist with asset minting, circulation, and localization efforts. The collaboration will help SHRAPNEL align with China’s regulatory frameworks while expanding its player base through licensed asset distribution.

Lingjing Labs, launched in 2024, is focused on building digital asset systems, supporting cultural innovation in games, and promoting sustainable development. Its support adds credibility and resources to SHRAPNEL’s entry into the Chinese market.

A New Model for Web3 Games and Digital Copyrights

This partnership represents a breakthrough for Web3 gaming. It introduces a compliance-first model for digital asset rights, blending international game development with China’s controlled infrastructure. According to Xuan Hongliang, director of the Trusted Copyright Chain’s operations center, this collaboration offers a globally adaptable solution for managing digital copyrights using blockchain.

NeonMachine CEO Ken Rosman emphasized that this move “sets a strong precedent” for how decentralized models can grow through government partnerships, calling it “just the beginning” of SHRAPNEL’s global journey.
