Neon Machine, the studio behind the blockchain shooter Shrapnel, has officially announced the migration of the game from Avalanche to GalaChain.
This shift comes as part of a larger plan to enter the Chinese gaming market by aligning with Gala’s new partnership with China’s Trusted Copyright Chain. The migration also includes the transfer of the game’s native token, SHRAP, from Avalanche to GalaChain.
A New Home on GalaChain
Shrapnel’s move marks a significant shift in infrastructure, as it abandons Avalanche in favor of GalaChain. Although the game will continue to offer separate versions for Chinese and international players, GalaChain will now serve as the sole blockchain for all gameplay.
The decision follows Gala Games’ partnership with the Trusted Copyright Chain, a China-compliant blockchain developed under public sector guidance. This partnership allows GalaChain to support local regulations while enabling Web3 features.
A key part of the infrastructure is a cross-chain bridge linking GalaChain and the Trusted Copyright Chain. Scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2026, this bridge will allow secure movement of digital assets while complying with strict Chinese rules, including those around NFTs.
Token Transition and Utility
As part of the migration, the SHRAP token will be fully integrated into GalaChain. It will remain the in-game currency for NFT purchases. Up to 10% of revenue generated from Chinese players will be used to buy back SHRAP tokens periodically, ensuring ongoing utility and market engagement.
In addition, the GALA token, used as gas for transactions on GalaChain, will be essential for all on-chain activities, including cross-border transfers. This move is designed to strengthen GALA’s role in the ecosystem by tying it directly to gameplay and infrastructure operations.
Opening the Door to 600 Million Gamers
The transition is part of a wider initiative to make blockchain gaming available to the massive Chinese gaming audience, estimated at over 600 million players. Xuan Hongliang from the Trusted Copyright Chain emphasized that the collaboration with Gala Games is meant to build compliant, large-scale games tailored for China.
Eric Schiermeyer, CEO of Gala Games, highlighted that regulatory compliance and a consistent user experience were central to the move. By leveraging GalaChain’s capabilities and its bridge to a permissioned Chinese blockchain, Shrapnel can now reach new audiences while remaining compliant with local laws.
