Solana Unveils Web3 Focused Smartphone - Saga

Anatoly Yakovenko – CEO and Co-founder of Solana – announced a web3-focused smartphone in New York City. The smartphone is called Saga.

Yakovenko thinks that people need not pull out their bulky laptops in order to not miss a crypto opportunity. He believes that mobile devices should be able to take care of such things and Saga is the solution he proposed.

“People will pull out their laptops in the middle of dates so they don’t miss an NFT minting opportunity… So I think it’s time for crypto to go mobile,” the CEO stated.

Ditch the Browser, Embrace Saga

As Solana launches this web3 smartphone, its sole focus is to ditch the browser experience and bring everything crypto into a smartphone. Additionally, the CEO shared the Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) – a web3 layer for Solana built on the smartphone.

The CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, was also present at the event and said the following:

“Everything is going mobile. In most countries, most of the access to people’s day-to-day lives happens through mobile phones. But the mobile accessibility of crypto products is not great today”

Solana Mobile Stack

The Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) will consist of a number of products. The products include a Mobile Wallet Adapter, a Seed Vault, DApp Store, Solana Pay for Android, and a custody solution.

The stack will also include a new set of libraries for apps and wallets that will open doors for developers to create a rich mobile experience.

“To build apps on this stack, there is a $10 million fund for developers. The builders are coming and they are of higher quality than before. They’re ready for the next leg of user growth.” said Raj Gokal, COO at Solana Labs.

The Solana Mobile Stack SDK is already available for developers.

Saga – Price and Specs

The smartphone will cost $1000 and has a 6.67-inch OLED display. To justify a higher price as such, they will add 512 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM. The phone will include the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU powered by a 4100 mAh battery.

The phone will have wireless charging support and a rare-mounted fingerprint scanner. When it comes to the camera, there will be two rear lenses – one is a 50 MegaPixel IMX766 f/1.8 and the second is an ultrawide 12 MP IMX373 f/2.2 120 degree. The selfie camera will have a 16 MP sensor.

You can preorder the smartphone by depositing $100 – the phone will be delivered to you by Q1 2023, according to Yakovenko.

Throughout the event, Yakovenko kept repeating the word “wow” for what the Solana network has achieved over the past few years. The CEO also shared the stats shared by Nansen that showed the Solana Network has 21 million Unique Active monthly accounts.
