Yield Guild Games switches on YGG 3.0, recasting the guild as an AI labor layer

yield guild games switches on ygg 3 0 recasting the guild as an ai labor layer In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Yield Guild Games says YGG 3.0 is now live, reframing the guild as a sector-agnostic infrastructure layer instead of a Web3 gaming operation.
  • At the heart of the pitch sits the Guild Protocol, with YGG pointing its onchain guild network toward human-in-the-loop intelligence, data verification and model alignment for AI.
  • Preceding the relaunch: publishing arm YGG Play was shut down July 31 and 35 jobs were cut, leaving a treasury worth $16.1 million as of June 30.

YGG 3.0 is officially live, Yield Guild Games announced, putting a formal stamp on its departure from the guild model it helped define during the Axie Infinity boom.

“We are evolving from a pioneer in Web3 gaming into a sector-agnostic infrastructure layer,” the guild said, calling the outcome a platform “for any community to organize human effort, skill and capital across the digital economy.”

Backing up that claim falls to the Guild Protocol. YGG presents it as a standard for Onchain Guilds assembled from three components — the guild itself, the assets it holds and its onchain activity — with soulbound tokens acting as the non-transferable credential layer. Its modules span work management, multisig treasury wallets and NFT issuance, letting a guild mint badges and operate quests of its own.

AI data labeling and game testing have now joined user acquisition campaigns in that quest lineup. The YGG token still serves as the protocol’s native asset, used to activate and access the coordination systems.

Three eras, one repositioning

The guild divides its own past into phases. Between 2018 and 2020, co-founders Gabby Dizon, Beryl Li and Owl of Moistness built the guild to distribute digital assets. Between 2021 and 2025, it standardized what it describes as decentralized labor coordination at scale, arranging players into autonomous onchain communities underpinned by verifiable reputation.

From 2026 onward, YGG casts the Guild Protocol network as a core operational layer for the AI economy. Its refreshed whitepaper on yieldguild.io opens with “Real Human Intelligence and Verified Data.”

Commercially, that translates into a B2B pipeline that sells gaming behavioral data to AI labs training world models. Player decisions, reactions and emergent behavior inside games feed systems with uses spanning robotics and in-game agents. Dizon has framed it as play-to-earn coming back, minus a payout token propped up by speculative liquidity.

What got shut down

Operations at YGG Play ended July 31. Down with it went the launchpad, Community Questing, LOL Land (official site) and Waifu Sweeper, and leftover player balances were snapshotted so they can be converted into YGG. GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker stay live under their original developers, Delabs Games and Planetarium Labs, each fitted with a new redemption flow for in-game rewards.

Lifetime revenue for the unit topped $9.6 million, with more than $541,000 of that arriving in the second quarter. Its high-water mark was $3 million in a single month, in October 2025. Community Questing, launched in August 2025, brought in over 24,000 users before being retired alongside the platform.

Shutting it down cut monthly burn considerably. According to YGG, the leftover treasury — over $4.7 million in stablecoins, Treasury bills and large-cap tokens as of the end of June — provides runway well into 2028.

The Philippines pipeline

YGG Alerts has been rebranded as AI Alerts, a job board listing verified remote AI training work and targeted at the guild’s Philippine community of roughly one million. Applications hit 27,000 within its first five days.

Alongside it sits GIG Rewards, operated through a tie-up with one of the country’s biggest telcos, which YGG has declined to name publicly. The program spans collection, annotation, RLHF, embodied AI data, QA and provenance from one operating layer.

Per AI Alerts, 72% of companies in the Philippines are already using AI, while just 17% say they can source enough qualified workers.

Preparation for this began before the pivot itself. During Season 6 of the Guild Advancement Program, questers were already training models and refining data sets, with Sapien, Navigate and Syne among the partners.

Elsewhere in the portfolio

June saw YGG roll out vibecode.game, a permissionless launchpad paired with an editorial site covering vibe-coded games. VibeBlitz, its debut jam held with Minds by Animoca Brands, signed up more than 250 creators and collected 72 completed games by the July 27 cutoff. The winners were revealed Aug. 10, and the leading projects earned access to the Minds Investment Programme along with Animoca’s 600-plus portfolio companies.

None of it has shown up in the token. YGG changed hands around $0.020 after setting an all-time low of $0.01673 on July 29, more than 99% beneath its $11.50 peak from November 2021. Another 3.42 million tokens, or 0.34% of supply, unlock Aug. 27.

Dizon made no attempt to soften the call that enabled all of this. “Sunsetting YGG Play is a heavy decision, but it is a market decision, not a product decision,” he said.
