In Brief:
- Six months after opening to the public, Waifu Sweeper went dark on July 31 — the same date that closed out the wind-down of YGG Play (official site).
- Purchases and platform missions were disabled on July 9, leaving players a July 31 deadline to unstake YGG and cash in their in-game points.
- Yield Guild Games (official site) has eliminated 35 roles and is steering its treasury toward a business selling gaming datasets used to train AI.
July 31 was the day Waifu Sweeper stopped working. Developed by Raitomira and published on Abstract by YGG Play, the puzzle title had been live to the public for a little more than half a year.
“Today marks our final day, and the game will no longer be accessible after today,” the game wrote in a post on X.

That closure marked the final entry on a timeline Yield Guild Games started July 6, the day it revealed plans to sunset its publishing arm, YGG Play, and cut 35 positions.
How the wind-down ran
A shutdown guide arrived from YGG Play on July 8. By 3 p.m. Singapore time the next day, purchase functionality and all platform mission systems had been turned off for both Waifu Sweeper and LOL Land.
Platform support ended for good on July 31. From that point, yggplay.fun, the launchpad hosted at app.yggplay.fun and the community missions hub at community.yggplay.fun are offline permanently.
Ahead of the cutoff, players were instructed to wrap up YGG unstaking and in-game point redemptions. Any compliant balances still sitting unprocessed will be converted automatically and pushed to the linked wallets following a snapshot taken on the deadline. Beyond that point, there is no manual support.
A market decision
“Sunsetting YGG Play is a heavy decision, but it is a market decision, not a product decision,” said Yield Guild co-founder Gabby Dizon.
According to the company, the publishing unit “cannot be commercially sustainable” while facing a prolonged crypto downturn alongside a video game publishing market it characterized as just as unforgiving. It singled out the Oct. 10 liquidation event, which it said “fundamentally altered retail market psychology.”
There are hard figures behind that reasoning. Through the first quarter of 2026, YGG Play had passed roughly $9 million in lifetime revenue, with a single-month high of nearly $3 million reached in October 2025. From that peak, revenue declined steadily.
Dizon resisted framing the shutdown as a judgment on the wider sector, describing it as “specific to our circumstances” and “not prescriptive for the industry,” while pointing to Axie (official site), Gigaverse (official site) and OnChain Heroes (official site).
Eight weeks of additional severance goes to the 35 affected employees. YGG said it would assist them in landing new roles and asked companies to reach out for hiring referrals.
What survives
A pair of titles live on. As of Aug. 1, GIGACHADBAT transfers to Delabs Games and Ragnarok Breaker to Planetarium Labs, with each studio taking over live services and introducing new token redemption processes.
No equivalent handoff was arranged for Waifu Sweeper or LOL Land (official site).
The YGG treasury holds more than $20 million, including $6 million spread across stablecoins, T-bills and large-cap tokens — enough, the company said, for about four years of runway. Its opening play is a B2B pipeline that sells gaming-derived datasets for training AI models, built on the premise that players produce valuable data as they make fast, complex decisions under pressure. YGG Alerts, its Philippines community program of around one million people, has already been renamed AI Alerts.
Six months in market
The game came from Raitomira co-founders Hun Pascal Park and Karan Singh. Park’s background includes Blizzard Entertainment, where he worked on StarCraft II, Overwatch and Hearthstone; Singh worked on PUBG Mobile within Tencent Mobile’s publishing division.
Gameplay blends Minesweeper-style deduction with a gacha layer of collectible anime characters, whose role is aesthetic and social rather than mechanical — the board itself plays the same either way. Revenue came from that character gacha, an official NFT store, spin bundles and an initial hero mint priced at about 6.9 USDT.
On Dec. 6, 2025, YGG Play, Raitomira and OpenSea threw a joint launch party at Art Basel Miami, where a soulbound NFT was minted on Abstract as proof of attendance. The public launch came on Jan. 28, and the game introduced Waifu Rush, a weekly leaderboard contest, on March 2.
“From sweeping away the dark lord to fiercely climbing up the leaderboards, you brought unmatched energy, competition, and fun to this project,” the game said.
