Konami has locked in the details: August 27, priced at £44.98/$49.99, with pre-orders live right now.
That’s the day METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.2 hits Steam, and it represents the most concrete Metal Gear roadmap fans have seen since Hideo Kojima departed Konami after thirty years to pursue other projects.
What’s actually in the box
Vol.2 continues on from the identically named compilation, and the marquee titles this round are Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots alongside Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version).
A digital soundtrack comes packed in as well. So does Metal Gear: Ghost Babel — precisely the sort of deep-cut addition that signals somebody inside Konami still cares.

Konami’s own pitch
In the developer’s own words, here’s what buyers can look forward to:
“Immerse yourself in the Metal Gear series, the pinnacle of “stealth action” where you can infiltrate and elude your enemies to complete missions. This collection is the second installment of the definitive Metal Gear Master Collection. Vol. 2 includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version).”
“Each game includes a Screenplay Book containing the text from the respective title, plus a Master Book offering detailed insights into the story and characters. Also, as purchase bonuses for the collection edition, it includes METAL GEAR Ghost Babel-the series first title for handheld consoles, released in 2000-and Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack Vol.2, featuring numerous iconic tracks that enhanced Snake’s missions, ranging from BGM used in the games to vocal songs.”
Every game gets its own Screenplay Book and Master Book. That’s archival-grade treatment rather than a lazy port dump.

The bigger question nobody at Konami is answering
Few major gaming IPs have a future as uncertain as Metal Gear Solid’s. Konami has never expressly stated its plans for the franchise, which reads as either patience or paralysis, depending on how generous you want to be.
Patience, if we’re being honest. Following the exit of a figure of that stature, the first genuine move deserves careful thought, and the fanbase is far too large globally for Konami to write the series off. Their taking time makes sense.
In the meantime, at least there’s something to play.
The rest of the Konami calendar
September 24, 2026 brings Silent Hill: Townfall. October 15 sees the arrival of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, an action platformer.

Past that pair, the company isn’t saying much. Still, don’t be surprised if Metal Gear returns in a new guise.
For now, what’s on offer is Snake in 2008, Snake in Costa Rica, and a handheld title from 2000 that largely flew under the radar. There are worse ways to pass the time.
