Nothing about the underlying deal has changed. “For every PSG1 sale we will buy and burn $PENGU,” the company stated at the launch of the collaboration. Every unit that moves takes PENGU out of circulation.

What the hardware is
Strip away the artwork and the Pudgy model is simply the standard PSG1. Under the shell sits a Rockchip RK3588S octa-core ARM CPU paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of eMMC flash storage.
Its display is a 3.92-inch OLED running 1240 x 1080 with capacitive multitouch, housed in a vertically oriented, retro-styled chassis. Connectivity comes by way of WiFi 6.0 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Rather than pairing with an external wallet, the device holds one onboard, protected by SvalGuard — Play Solana’s proprietary system — alongside a capacitive fingerprint reader on the rear. On the Pudgy variant, that back panel is stamped with a Pudgy Penguin image.
Emulation forms a core part of the pitch. Beyond Solana titles, the PSG1 handles PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast games, and Play Solana frames the device as a distribution point for its own gaming library.
Where the token side lands
Anyone buying the special editions is rolled into the PLAY distribution. The company reserved 5% of the allocation for PSG1 Wave 0, Wave 1 and Wave 2 buyers, while another 16% flows through XP-based rewards such as the Early Community Drop and additional campaigns.
According to Play Solana, Wave 0 and Wave 1 holders had already locked in their spots, leaving Wave 2 as the final way into the earliest generation of players acknowledged in the distribution. Wave buyers who held a PSG1 Genesis Soulbound NFT also qualified for the Community Pre-sale.
Wave 2 was never set up as a pre-order. It functions as a direct purchase from existing stock, and what’s obtainable depends on region, inventory and shipping eligibility at checkout.
How it got here
The PSG1 was unveiled in September 2024, billed as the first handheld console built for Solana games. A shipping date followed on Aug. 26, 2025, and the console arrived Oct. 6, 2025 priced at $329, with Wave 2 orders going out that same day.
The Pudgy tie-up predated all of that, with pre-orders opening July 30, 2025. That came a little over a month after the Pudgy Penguins team released Pengu Clash (official site), a skill-based game built on The Open Network.
“Play-to-win, in essence, is a skill-based game,” said Luca Netz, CEO of Pudgy Penguins, framing the title as players wagering against each other rather than earning through play. Building on TON, Netz said, was about reaching Telegram’s untapped audience.
Play Solana places the PSG1 at the heart of what it calls the SuperHUB, a modular network linking games, wallets, identity, IP and rewards. Onboarding runs through gameplay via Play Solana: Origins, which walks users through staking, swaps and NFTs, while Play<Gate> serves as the publishing route for developers.
PLAY’s token launch was slated for Oct. 13. From there the ecosystem shifted out of the Genesis XP Season and into Season 1, live since Nov. 28 with a PlayDex quest slate spanning social missions, staking and gameplay, portions of it gated to PSG1 console and NFT holders.
Pudgy isn’t alone in getting its own shell. BONK and JUP themed editions have already shipped, and Play Solana has collaborated with MonkeDAO as well. The BONK model shares both the $349 price and the identical mechanic: purchase the hardware, burn the token.
