September 14 is the cutoff for the “This Guy” emote in Red Dead Online. One completed Moonshiner Sale is all it takes to claim it. Miss that window and the weekly reward rotates to the Black Woodland Gloves on the 15th, with the emote returning to the vault.
Rockstar laid out the details of the newest Red Dead Online event on its official site, and moonshining sits at the center of nearly all of it.
The moonshine math is unusually generous
For all of September, Moonshiner Story Missions pay out at triple rates: 3X RDO$, 3X Role XP and 3X XP. That is the sort of multiplier that compresses a grind you keep postponing into a single afternoon.
Free Roam Missions carry the same 3X RDO$ and XP boost this month. The Featured Series does too, with Lemoyne rotating through until September 14, at which point Hardcore Last Stand steps in.
Take the Featured Series and the tan Porter Jacket is your prize. Knock out any three Daily Challenges and you’ll pocket the black and red Carbow Double Bandolier.
Some of it you get for doing nothing
Any Moonshiner who just logs in and plays during the month walks away with the Emerald Ranch and Falls Moonshiner Bar Photographs. The same no-strings deal applies to Level 50 Gunslingers, who receive the Zapatero Outfit and the Golden Spirit Buckle. Turn up, hit start, collect.
There’s also the community-inspired outfit, available now at no cost from the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalogue until October 5. With that much runway left, it’s the one item here you can safely leave for later.
Why Rockstar keeps feeding the multiplayer
Red Dead Redemption 2 is approaching its tenth anniversary and players are still signing in daily. Anyone who’s been wearing Arthur’s boots since day one has almost certainly squeezed the single-player campaign dry.
That’s precisely the void Red Dead Online occupies. No DLC ever arrived for the campaign; Rockstar has consistently funneled its support into the multiplayer modes instead. Call it generosity or call it a consolation prize, depending on how much you wanted that story expansion.
The part nobody wants to talk about
Where the franchise goes next is less clear than fans would prefer. Rockstar’s focus is currently on GTA VI, which is hardly surprising.
Red Dead Redemption was conceived as a two-part story. There’s a real chance a third entry isn’t on anybody’s roadmap.
Then again, this is an enormously profitable IP, and abandoning it outright would be odd business. Just don’t count on Rockstar addressing the question anytime soon.
Until then, somewhere on a server there’s a cowboy waiting on a moonshine sale, and about two days left to earn the right to point at him.
