For years, Apple has refused to give the Mac a touchscreen. This month in Los Angeles, it may finally give in.

Apple has started sending invitations to a select group of journalists for a special product event in Los Angeles on October 28, 2026. Most of the interest is in a device people have argued about for a long time: the first touchscreen MacBook.

The news came from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has a strong track record with Apple leaks. He called the event an all-day hands-on session with new hardware. Gurman says Apple is preparing redesigned MacBook Pro models, a new iPad mini and more Macs with M6 chips.

Touch arrives on the MacBook Pro at last

The main draw is expected to be OLED touchscreen versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. That would be a historic change for the lineup.

Apple has never put touch on its laptops, and it has kept a firm divide between the MacBook and the iPad. If Gurman is right, that divide is about to get much less clear.

Rumors say the new machines will be noticeably thinner and lighter. They are also expected to have OLED panels and even an iPhone-style Dynamic Island. Earlier reports raised the possibility of a MacBook Ultra name, but Gurman now thinks the devices will more likely keep the MacBook Pro name.

The redesign won’t reach every new Mac

Apple is also expected to show a more traditional 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip, along with an updated iMac that also uses M6.

These are separate machines from the larger OLED MacBooks. Earlier leaks suggest the OLED models may use different versions of the chip, so don’t expect every M6 Mac to perform the same.

The iPad mini fixes its most annoying flaw

The iPad mini is also set for a meaningful upgrade, with an OLED display finally expected.

Reports also say the front camera is moving to a spot that works better for landscape video calls. Anyone who has held an iPad mini sideways on a call and ended up looking off to one side of the screen will welcome the change. A redesigned speaker system is reportedly coming too, and earlier leaks have linked the tablet to the A20 Pro chip.

The announcement may come before October 28

There is one important caveat. October 28 is confirmed as the date of the hands-on session journalists were invited to. Apple won’t necessarily announce anything officially that day.

Gurman has previously said the new products would be unveiled on or around October 27, possibly through an online presentation. If you’re waiting for a touchscreen MacBook Pro, watch for news a day early.
