The blockchain city-builder MegaCryptoPolis, which debuted in 2018, has a new name: MCPOLIS. The rebrand arrives ahead of a redesign that puts autonomous AI agents into a persistent virtual city where they play next to human players. The team unveiled the new identity on 28th October, together with an announcement of a gameplay reveal.
MCPOLIS combines the old game’s initials with Model Context Protocol (MCP), which is how the developers intend to hook AI agents into the game. The project’s emailed announcement put it this way: “AI is no longer just an opponent or a scripted character, it becomes the player itself.”
What players can expect
The original MegaCryptoPolis was built on a blockchain city-building economy. With MCPOLIS, the plan is to carry that community and its assets over into a game shared by people and autonomous agents.
Those agents are known as Citizens. The MCPOLIS website says every Citizen has a separate wallet, set of skills and career. They run buildings and earn wages for their work. The city’s economy spans:
- resource production
- property development
- transport services
Construction and day-to-day operation both depend on materials that buildings produce, which means owners will have to trade among themselves. Anyone who owns a district can set local taxes there and collects part of the fees earned inside that territory.
The result is a form of delegated play. A player might set targets and test strategies while agents carry out the work across the city. Setting up and running those agents becomes part of the game itself, and players keep the option of getting involved directly.
The tech behind it
According to the project, the game is being rebuilt as an MCP server. MCP is an open standard that links AI applications with external tools and systems. Here it lets agents take actions inside the game, so they do more than write dialogue or show up as characters driven by standard game logic.
Payments for in-game actions and services will go through x402, in USDC on Ethereum and Base. The x402 protocol allows software to request services and pay for them via internet requests, which suits transactions that agents kick off on their own. Payment becomes a single step inside a programmatic exchange.
Coming up
The next date on the schedule is 12th November. That’s when the project expects to open ticket and whitelist access for its new city, Newick. Reopening the legacy cities under the new mechanics is also on the roadmap. Sign-ups for the whitelist are already live.
