MegaCryptoPolis is relaunching as MCPOLIS, and its citizens will now have to commute, which is the largest change to how the game plays. The earlier version of the city sim let citizens be active everywhere at the same time. In MCPOLIS, a citizen who accepts a job on the other side of town must travel there, and once the shift is over, find a place to recover stamina.
Job hunting becomes a puzzle as a result. A job with higher pay can leave a citizen with less money once transport and a bed are paid for. Players can weigh those trade-offs on their own, or give an AI agent control of a citizen and its wallet and let the agent work it out.
Jobs, wages and the hourly shift
When the original MegaCryptoPolis launched in 2018, its economy was built on land, buildings and resource production, and owners placed citizens in their buildings directly. MCPOLIS changes this. Buildings post jobs with wages and qualification requirements, while citizens apply and are paid by the hour.
That makes the location of housing and transport more important. Even a factory with cheap inputs can find it hard to turn a profit if it has to pay extra to bring in workers.
A new way to trade resources
The old pack-based trading system is gone, replaced by an order book, and every building now holds its own inventory. Owners can pick up inputs when prices are low and stockpile them before a shortage hits. Sold goods still move instantly. Physical deliveries are under consideration for a later update, so for now the city’s layout matters far more to workers than to the goods they produce.
Agents and players on the same terms
Players can move back and forth between running a citizen themselves and letting an agent act on their behalf. MCPOLIS uses a Model Context Protocol interface, built to give agents the same information and actions available to people playing in the browser client. Each citizen has a wallet, and payments settle in USDC via the x402 agent payment protocol.
Newick comes first
Testing starts in Newick, a demo city designed to keep costs and risks near zero. Players can move their existing citizens into Newick and later send them back to their home cities. Any citizens created or acquired in Newick remain there.
MCPOLIS plans to share opening details after 12th November and wants players to get hands-on with the new gameplay before the year ends. Newick should reveal whether managing a team of agents is fun. The legacy cities will show what happens when those teams compete for wages people can cash out.
