Sunflower Land puts Level 3 skill ranks behind Ascension Shards in all 12 trees

sunflower land puts level 3 skill ranks behind ascension shards in all 12 trees In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Sunflower Land (official site) players can now put Ascension Shards toward pushing skills as high as Level 3 in each of the 12 rebalanced skill trees, according to a Ronin post that steered followers back toward the game.
  • Both Rank 2 and Rank 3 demand shards on top of extra skill points, and the only source of shards is temporary Ascension Crystal nodes, which burn a Gold Pickaxe when mined.
  • The feature arrived as part of Chapter 15, a run that ends Nov. 2 and permanently wipes its content once the window closes.

Each of Sunflower Land's skill trees now comes with three ranks, and reaching the highest one means spending Ascension Shards.

Ronin put the spotlight on the mechanic this week. “Use Ascension Shards to rank your skills up to Level 3 across all 12 rebalanced skill trees,” the network wrote in a post that linked out to the game.

How the ranks work

Whatever picking up a skill used to do under the old system is what Rank 1 delivers now. The effect grows at Ranks 2 and 3, and each one charges Ascension Shards on top of additional skill points. A handful of Rank 2 and Rank 3 upgrades remain unavailable until the player has opened higher tiers within that same tree.

Ranks weren’t applied across the board. Skills that would gain nothing from an upgrade — Insta-Chop and Sprout Surge among them — were left without any.

Rather than stronger effects, Power Skills receive shorter cooldowns, in some cases cut by half. The Power Skill that harvests every growing crop on the spot falls from a three-day cooldown to 2.5 days at the following rank, then to two days. Instantly growing all trees comes with a 24-hour cooldown.

Where the shards come from

The sole source of Ascension Shards is a temporary type of resource node called Ascension Crystals. Crystal and shard are two distinct resources: mining a crystal eats a Gold Pickaxe and drops shards into the player’s inventory.

When the system went live, players already in the game were handed shards scaled to how far their island had progressed, so no one was penalized for expansions completed earlier. Farmers who have already hit the Volcano ceiling pick up the shards they missed once they ascend the island to Swamp and upgrade the expansion. To blunt the head start beta testers held, A2 ascensions stayed locked until the chapter’s second month.

There’s a ceiling on node generation. A farm produces one node apiece on the Spring, Desert and Volcano upgrades prior to the first ascension — three in all. Every ascension beyond that yields one Upgrade Node plus expansion nodes, and generation levels off from A10 onward at one Upgrade Node and 12 Expansion Nodes, permanently. Islands begin with 30 unlocked tiles and grow to 42.

Diminishing returns by design

Filed in the project’s GitHub repo as proposal #7343, the system’s design document pegged Green Thumb at 5% reduced plot crop growth time for Rank I, 7.5% for Rank II and 8.5% for Rank III. That flattening curve, the proposal said, was an intentional guardrail on cost.

The thread’s readers pushed back. One commenter did the arithmetic: a single skill point delivers 5%, yet another two skill points plus two Ascension Shards tack on just 3.5% more.

Per the proposal, every skill is up for review, though ascension ranks won’t reach all of them. Where a skill would create unhealthy economic outcomes, it may draw a different bonus or be excluded outright. The team also mapped out slightly weaker alternate boosts so Grinx’s Hammer wouldn’t run away with the meta and other players could close the gap. Those alternatives don’t stack with the Hammer.

The chapter clock

Chapter 15, The Ascension Age, began Aug. 3 and runs through Nov. 2. Attached to it are a 60-tier reward track worth 60,000 points and 31 exclusive chapter NFTs. Once the three-month window shuts, the content disappears for good.

The same update introduced Swamp Islands, the Shiny Feather currency, and fresh wildlife and mutants. Over 40,000 players turned out during the opening stretch. Ascending to Swamp calls for Bumpkin level 150.

Not everyone is on board with the ascension track. Participants in the repo discussion noted that expansions 26 through 30 require 150 Obsidian altogether, and with weekly market caps in play that stretches to seven months at the very least — which could strand some farmers on the old island waiting for markets to reset.

Background

FLOWER, the fixed-supply ERC-20 behind the game, trades on Katana, and about 20% of active users are on Ronin. The token debuted on Base in April 2025, replacing SFL at a 1:1 rate with no loss of player progress.

Players who misallocate points while chasing a Level 3 skill get one free tree reset every 180 days. Resetting ahead of that schedule runs 200 gems.
