Deep in Hugh Howey’s buried world, one shelter worked out that the entire arrangement was a lie — and then unplugged itself.
The shelter in question is Silo 40. Reports now suggest it’s the hook Apple TV+ is considering for a second show set in this universe.
None of it is confirmed. Apple hasn’t made any announcement. Even so, the chatter is specific enough that viewers of the series may want to keep an eye on it.
What the leaks actually say
According to the reports, Apple TV+ has a fresh Silo-universe series under consideration. Pre-production is rumored for 2027, a window that dovetails with the flagship show wrapping up after its fourth season.
That detail deserves a beat of thought. Silo wouldn’t be getting stretched out — it would be getting a successor.
The source material doesn’t exist yet
This is the curious part. The same leaks indicate the possible spinoff would draw on a new literary trilogy from Howey.
That forthcoming work is said to center on Silo 40 and stretch across an enormous span of time, beginning before the events of the first book, Wool, and continuing past the conclusion of Dust.
In other words, prequel and sequel bundled together — bookends wrapped around a story television hasn’t finished telling yet.
Why Silo 40 is the one they’d pick
On the page, Silo 40 is a cut-off underground shelter that uncovered the truth behind the system. It then rose up against Silo 1.
And it prevailed, in the only sense that matters down there. By cutting the link between itself and Silo 1, Silo 40 sidestepped the Safeguard process altogether.
Anyone following the show understands what Safeguard means and why slipping free of it counts for so much. A silo that has crawled out from under the boot makes for a very different story than the one currently on screen.
Keep the expectations calibrated
All of this remains a rumor. The 2027 pre-production window is rumored rather than scheduled, and the trilogy it would adapt is still upcoming.
Apple, for its part, has said nothing.
The premise sticks with you regardless: a silo that already has the answer, severed from the machinery designed to wipe it away.
