Grand Theft Auto VI reaches console owners on November 19, 2026. Anyone playing on PC will be a spectator that day.
That is where things stand today. The release is set for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar Games has been silent on a native PC edition. The parent company that funds Rockstar, however, has now said a good deal on the subject, and none of it resembles “wait forever.”
Zelnick’s answer on the investor call
On Thursday, September 17, during Take-Two Interactive’s investor call, CEO Strauss Zelnick fielded a shareholder question on whether PlayStation 5 Pro supply shortages could nudge the publisher toward PC distribution. Some background: GTA VI’s record-setting trailer helped consoles sell out around the globe.
Zelnick never mentioned GTA VI by name, choosing instead to speak for the entire portfolio.
“I assume this is a question regarding the cadence of PC launches. The strategy of the company is, over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience. But that isn’t always the case, and certainly, if platforms were no longer viable, we could change that strategy,” he said.
Treat that as company philosophy rather than a commitment. Zelnick deliberately kept things broad, which is precisely the hedge you’d expect from an executive who knows every word will be screenshotted.
The figure that counts
Things got more interesting when Zelnick laid out how much PC now contributes to Take-Two’s revenue, describing the platform as “more and more important.”
Back in 2007, when he joined the company, PC accounted for roughly 5% of total volume on key franchises such as NBA 2K. Now, he said, major titles routinely see PC make up between 45% and 50% of total units sold.
That’s half. No publisher skips a platform that size.
Grand Theft Auto V makes the case on its own. Its Enhanced Edition carries over 210,000 user reviews on Steam and regularly ranks among Valve’s top 20 most-played titles, alongside Red Dead Redemption 2, another Rockstar console release that found a second life on PC.
How long until PC players get it?
With a PC version looking all but certain, the open question is when Lucía and Jason’s story reaches Steam and the Epic Games Store. Precedent points to at least a year.
GTA V needed 18 months to move from console to PC, landing in April 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2 was faster, arriving one year after its console debut. GTA VI is widely expected to keep to a similar rhythm.
One rumour deserves a mention, with the usual caveats attached. VGC reporter Andy Robinson reports the PC release could arrive sooner than expected, with Rockstar said to be evaluating an accelerated schedule because of ongoing global hardware supply constraints on current-gen consoles.
Nothing here is confirmed. Rockstar has yet to officially acknowledge a PC version at all, never mind weigh in on the timing speculation.
The promotional engine is starting up
What Rockstar has done is begin the marketing drip. This week the studio announced a physical soundtrack release for the game and also unveiled a new collectible tied to it.
None of that reveals when you’ll be running it on a 4090. It does show the studio shifting into launch mode, and Zelnick’s 45-to-50% figure shows where the money sits. Connect those two points however you like.
