That’s why a single number may be the most practical thing the GTA 6 leak saga has produced so far. Cyberleek, the leaker who has been sharing what looks like footage from a developer build, says the game takes up more than 200GB. Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed this, and Take-Two Interactive hasn’t either. For now it’s only a leaker’s claim, and it should be treated that way.

How the 200GB number surfaced

The figure didn’t come from a neat spec sheet. It came as part of a threat. Cyberleek has said they will leak the developer build they have if their meme coin climbs past $30 million in value, and in making that threat they described the build as more than 200GB.

So be skeptical. Very skeptical.

Even if the number is right, there’s a caveat. A developer build is probably much bulkier and less optimized than the version that goes on sale. That means the retail download should end up under 200GB. It’s better to read the figure as an upper limit than as a prediction.

A leaker who went quiet, then came back louder

If you’ve heard the name before, it’s because Cyberleek has been very active. They went silent for a stretch around the time Rockstar released its Netflix showcase, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. Then they returned and pushed even further.

Their response to Rockstar’s showcase was something they called an Extended Leek. The name mocks the official title, and the video runs about the same length. Among other things, it seemed to show that Cyberleek had a working copy of the game with developer mode turned on. Tanks were spawned in, and characters were going commando. For part of the fanbase, that went too far.

The file size is different, though. It’s the one detail that helps players without spoiling anything. It reveals nothing about the story, the map or the characters. It only tells you how much space to free up on your PS5 or Xbox.

Why 200GB is believable

Rockstar’s previous major release is a good guide. Red Dead Redemption 2 used up to 107GB on consoles and 150GB on PC. A follow-up coming in somewhere near 200GB isn’t hard to believe, particularly for a game that looks set to be one of the largest and most detailed open worlds ever built.

The safe approach is easy: have 200GB free before launch and wait for the official number. If the retail build turns out smaller, you’ll have room left over. If it doesn’t, you’re already prepared.

Rockstar’s slow trickle of news, and how to pass the time

Official information has been scarce. Apart from the Netflix showcase, which gave fans plenty to study, Rockstar and Take-Two have released only tiny bits of news. Leakers like Cyberleek thrive in exactly that kind of silence.

Interest in the game is not the problem. Grand Theft Auto VI has already sold out on Amazon, and its storage footprint won’t be the only big thing about it: it’s set to be one of the biggest games of the decade.

There’s still more than a month to go, and Red Dead Online is a good way to fill it. The new Red Dead Redemption 2: Fear of the Dark content is also arriving just in time for spooky season.

As for Cyberleek, the hope is that they stay quiet until November 19 and never follow through on their promise to leak the full game. Some of us want to see Vice Beach for the first time with fresh eyes, ice cream sprinkles and all.
