Square Enix, a leading global video game publisher, has become a validator on the Tezos blockchain network. This move further reinforces the increasing synergy between the gaming sector and blockchain innovation.

By operating a baker node on Tezos, Square Enix actively verifies transactions and enhances the network’s security and stability. Validators, known as bakers on Tezos, play a critical role in processing transactions and upholding the system’s integrity.
Tezos is an open-source blockchain platform built to facilitate decentralized applications and seamless digital value transfer. Utilizing a Proof of Stake mechanism, Tezos prioritizes energy efficiency and long-term scalability. Its robust governance model and ability to upgrade without causing network disruptions have made it a standout in the blockchain space.
Square Enix, renowned for its influential role in the gaming world, has crafted some of the most celebrated entertainment franchises over several decades. Its portfolio boasts iconic intellectual properties such as Final Fantasy (with over 203 million copies sold globally), Dragon Quest (exceeding 94 million units sold worldwide), and the legendary arcade game Space Invaders.

Hideaki Uehara, General Manager of Investment and Business Development at Square Enix Holdings, stated that running a baker node offers the company a hands-on approach to deepening its expertise in blockchain technology.
Uehara noted that Square Enix has already engaged in various blockchain initiatives. Taking on the validator node role through Tezos enables the company to participate directly in the network and gain practical insights into blockchain operations.
The Tezos community has warmly welcomed Square Enix’s involvement.
Efe Kucuk, Head of Gaming at Trilitech—the R&D hub behind Tezos—emphasized that having a major gaming publisher onboard boosts the network’s credibility. He highlighted that Square Enix’s extensive game development experience could showcase how blockchain technology supports innovative gaming platforms and player-driven economies.
With the ongoing surge in blockchain gaming interest, Tezos has emerged as a vibrant platform for game developers. The network now accommodates a diverse array of gaming projects, from casual mobile games to expansive multiplayer experiences.
In 2025, the Tezos gaming ecosystem reported approximately 440,000 unique users and handled around 31 million transactions. The increasing involvement of prominent game studios and publishers signals that blockchain-powered gaming platforms are gaining significant traction within the industry.
