Uncharted Ends Operations
Uncharted has announced the closure of its operations, including its prime offering, the game Fishing Frenzy. The cessation comes after recognizing that the game failed to achieve a viable product-market fit. Uncharted’s co-founder, Derek Lau expressed regret over the situation, stating on X, “I’m sorry we couldn’t deliver,” reflecting the challenges faced in affirming their crypto gaming concept. Derek’s acknowledgment underscores the end of an ambitious venture that couldn’t align its innovative digital environment with market dynamics effectively.
Game Closure Details
Fishing Frenzy, which made its debut on Ronin in April 2025 as its first permissionless game, has scheduled server closure for 2 a.m. UTC, June 25, 2026. Until then, players can continue to play the game; however, purchasing USDC packages is no longer possible. The FISH token can no longer be traded but remains spendable within the game environment.
Returning Value to the Community
In a step to ensure fair distribution of the assets, Uncharted has decided to withdraw USDC from the FISH/USDC liquidity pool. This redistribution is based on Karma scores of the users, captured in a snapshot on June 15, 2026. Users with positive Karma will receive a USDC airdrop directly to their linked Ronin wallets. Furthermore, expenses from non-diving USDC since the launch of Chapter 3 on May 14 will be automatically refunded. These distributions will be handled by Sky Mavis, aligning with established Karma scores.
Additionally, Uncharted has made the Karma score dataset available in an open-source format, enabling other projects to potentially utilize this data for rewarding high Karma users. The dataset will also be shared with partner projects to maintain any commitments made to users with significant Karma scores.
Future of Player Assets
Following the server shutdown, access to server-side items such as collectibles will be lost. Uncharted has assured that records of these assets will be maintained, although no new projects are planned to utilize them. Post the final payout, the Fishing Frenzy Discord will remain active for at least 30 days to provide support and address any queries. The project’s website will continue to be accessible but will not receive active updates, and the Uncharted X account will remain open until all payout processes are completed. This structured shutdown seeks to respect the community’s involvement and ensure clarity as Uncharted wraps up its operations.
