Winter is still a few months away, but Netmarble Neo has decided not to wait for the snow.
Season 2 of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad went live on September 2, 2026. Titled Trial of the Reach Bannermen: Rose and Thorn, it is the strongest signal so far that the studio has moved past defending its launch build and started expanding on it.
There is a gate, though. Episode IV of the main quest has to be completed first. Clear that, and Trial of the Reach Bannerman: Rose & Thorn opens up.
The game people wrote off is doing fine now
When Kingsroad landed on Steam, Android and iOS last year, the reception was middling — and that is the generous framing.
The studio has spent the time since working through community complaints, and the numbers show it: recent Steam reviews put the ARPG at a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating. The players who stayed through the rocky stretch are the ones cashing in now.
Timing is on its side, too. House of the Dragon is mid-run, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is performing well, and the audience seems happy to accept Westeros in whatever shape it arrives.
What Season 2 actually hands you
Co-op missions, bounties and achievements are all new, along with a fresh batch of sub quests spread across Trial of the Reach Bannerman: Rose & Thorn.
Ranked groups are being reshuffled for Season 2, so matchmaking should pair you with opponents nearer your actual skill level rather than whoever the old brackets left you stuck beside.
The Mauler set is the real draw
There is new equipment as well, and it is designed more cleverly than the average seasonal drop. How many pieces of the Mauler set you own determines the levels of rage it grants. Think Kratos and his Spartan rage — that is the correct comparison.
A practical warning that stings if you discover it too late: crafting it requires a forge at level 2 or higher. Handle that before you start stockpiling materials.
Beyond the wall, and one on one
Seasonal expeditions beyond the wall are part of the package too, alongside a new 1v1 tournament you can enter with a friend — or with the guildmate you have been quietly resenting.
Every bit of it is free to play, which hits a little differently this week, given how many people are wincing at the price attached to the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
Month by month, Kingsroad has gotten better, and Rose & Thorn is aimed at veteran Targaryens and first-timers alike. Unite the seven kingdoms through power, bloodshed and prowess — or at minimum, go absolutely ham on somebody in the tournament bracket.
