OpenSea Reopens the Door to Solana NFTs, Four Years After Scrapping Its Beta

opensea reopens the door to solana nfts four years after scrapping its beta In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Solana NFT trading went live on OpenSea on Aug. 31, arriving more than four years after the marketplace pulled the plug on an earlier beta that spanned 165 collections.
  • Claynosaurz, Mad Lads, BoDoggos, Collector Crypt and Phygitals are part of the day-one lineup, and purchases, sales and bids are all processed inside the OS2 interface.
  • Since the beta wound down, no non-EVM chain other than Solana has received NFT support on OpenSea — and the launch comes as Magic Eden pulls back to Solana and marketplace volumes languish well beneath their 2021 peaks.

Trading of Solana NFTs went live on OpenSea on Aug. 31, filling a hole that had been open since the marketplace scrapped its original Solana beta back in 2022.

Searching, buying, selling and bidding on Solana collections all happen directly within OS2. The collections available at launch included Claynosaurz, Mad Lads, BoDoggos, Collector Crypt and Phygitals.

One place for the NFTs you love

Announcing the rollout in a post on X, OpenSea wrote: “One place for the NFTs you love.”

First non-EVM chain since the beta

No non-EVM network had picked up NFT trading on OpenSea since the earlier service was discontinued, making Solana the first. Nearly all of the remaining lineup is EVM-compatible: Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, Base, Monad, Sei and Berachain. According to OpenSea, the marketplace now covers more than 25 blockchains.

“OS2 was rebuilt from the ground up as multi-chain platform. We led with Solana token support, and NFTs are now being added. They’re particularly relevant now with the emergence of so many collectibles platforms utilizing Solana NFTs,” an OpenSea representative said.

Getting here took several steps. Solana came back to OpenSea in April 2025 via OS2, though only fungible tokens were supported at first, with the company signaling then that NFTs would arrive later. OS2 left beta in May 2025. Since 2025, SOL has also been usable as a payment method for NFTs on other chains.

Collections with games attached

Gaming and collectibles operations sit behind a number of the launch collections. Claynosaurz — 10,000 animated dinosaurs minted in November 2022 — is being turned into a mobile game in partnership with Gameloft. Collector Crypt and Phygitals both run storefront-style collectible projects.

OpenSea’s return to Solana lands exactly as Magic Eden heads in the opposite direction. Magic Eden shut down its Bitcoin and EVM marketplaces earlier this year in order to shift resources toward Solana. Tensor is still operating on the chain.

A thinner market than 2022

Across 2021 and 2022, monthly NFT marketplace volume was measured in the billions. These days it sits in the hundreds of millions. Binance closed its centralized NFT service in June, while Nifty Gateway, Kraken NFT and X2Y2 have each wound down services over the past few years.

The gap between tokens and collectibles shows up in OpenSea’s own figures. Following the OS2 launch, the platform recorded 467,322 monthly active addresses in May 2025 — a 44% jump on the previous month — yet monthly trading volume held at $81 million.

April 6, 2022 marked the debut of the first Solana effort. Spanning 165 collections, it never really caught on. That March, Solana NFT volume was running at $173 million a month, and the bulk of it flowed elsewhere.

What comes with the expansion

Alongside the multichain buildout, OpenSea is readying a token launch. According to CEO Devin Finzer, the SEA token is slated for the first quarter of 2026, with half of the supply set aside for longtime users and rewards program participants and half of platform revenue at launch channeled into buybacks. Finzer said holders will be able to stake SEA “behind [their] favorite tokens and collections.”

Neither the total supply nor the method for calculating allocations has been disclosed by OpenSea. The company has additionally opened a mobile app to closed alpha testers, which it intends to ship ahead of the token generation event.

A fee increase funded the rewards crates that came before the token announcement. OpenSea’s current rates are 1% on each NFT transaction and 0.85% on each token transaction.
