At Tokyo Game Show 2026, the shirt was free. On eBay, some sellers now want up to $200 for it. Since this is GTA 6 merch, nobody should be too surprised.
Several listings price the commemorative shirts at roughly $140 to $200. Smaller giveaways from Rockstar’s booth are also changing hands. GTA 6-branded stickers and carabiners are fetching $30 to $40 apiece, which is a lot to pay for a sticker.
What people lined up for
To get a shirt, attendees had to sit through a special immersive screening of GTA 6’s viral Netflix special. The footage was the same extended trailer that premiered on Netflix last month, with extra content added for the show floor.
The screening used surround sound and 4D haptic effects timed to what was on screen. When Jason and Lucia rob a corner store or run from the police, viewers feel it in their seats. PlayStation gave out the free shirts to mark the event.
Demand was about what you’d expect. The GTA 6 booth reached capacity and shut its doors only 10 minutes after opening. Most fans who wanted a seat never got one, and some of those who did spotted a chance at easy money.
A familiar scalper playbook
Anyone who has followed a major fandom in recent years has seen this before. Exclusive merchandise has become a dependable target for resellers.
Look at the One Piece tie-in with Popeyes. Scalpers stood in lines stretching for blocks outside local restaurants to get Luffy-themed bento boxes, then listed them online at huge markups.
The Pokemon Trading Card scene is worse still. Scalpers aggressively chase card packs and merchandise, and the result has been chaos at retailers. Some standoffs have turned violent and ended in arrests. Next to that, someone reselling a Tokyo Game Show T-shirt looks harmless.
Miami is joining in
Excitement around GTA 6 has never been higher, and it reaches well past the resale market. Miami is working with Rockstar on special advertising for the game.
The city recently put up a $1 million “Welcome to Vice City” sign after starting talks with officials about a possible GTA 6-themed takeover of the whole area. None of the takeover plans are confirmed yet. Still, when a city will spend $1 million on a sign, $200 for a shirt from a 10-minute line seems a bit less absurd.
What buyers actually get is some cotton, a logo and proof that they were among the few who got a seat before the booth closed.
