After five years in early access — and five years of dominating group chats and Discord servers — Valheim is finally calling itself finished. Version 1.0 arrives September 9 on PC, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. If you were under the impression the game had wrapped up ages ago, plenty of people made the same assumption.
That contradiction sums up the month nicely. One half of the schedule is made up of titles fans have tracked for years; the other half consists of releases that appear from nowhere and quietly consume an entire weekend.
GTA 6 still looms over everything, sure. September 2026 is unbothered. The month has arrived, the lineup is dense, and it swings from gothic horror to farming sims without much breathing room in between.
Wolverine is the headliner, with an asterisk
Marvel’s Wolverine arrives September 15, picking up with Logan as he returns to Team X following a three-year absence. Mutants are disappearing, and Wolverine takes the case. Expect something violent and combat-forward — the only sensible approach to a Wolverine game.
Here’s the sting: it’s exclusive to PS5, with no PC version planned. Millions of players are shut out entirely, and there’s no way to sugarcoat that.
The consolation is that the remainder of September is far more welcoming.
Spooky season kicks off early this year
Halloween: The Game shows up September 8 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — about as literal a way to usher in October as you’ll find. It’s hardly the only choice, though.
September 24 brings Silent Hill: Townfall to PC and PS5, while The Blood of Dawnwalker delivers its dark fantasy on September 3 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Across those three, sinking into atmosphere has seldom been so straightforward.
The horror actually starts on day one. Crimson Moon launches September 1 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — a gothic action RPG packed with supernatural abilities and punishing missions crawling with demons, vampires and things worse than both.
Onimusha returns from an eight-year gap
Onimusha: Way of the Sword hits PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 3, ending an eight-year absence for the franchise. Think samurai fantasy, weighty swordplay and a grim mood throughout.
Need to catch up first? PS Plus members can currently play Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams at no extra cost. It’s homework, but the enjoyable kind.
There’s more on the cozy shelf than you’d expect
Not every release is out to frighten you. Woodo — the diorama puzzle game whose art style you’ll clock instantly — lands September 16 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Dragon Shelter puts a fresh farming sim on PC September 24. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush arrives September 10 with upbeat driving mayhem. Also on September 10, Welcome to Elderfield lands somewhere in the middle with cozy horror — a genre tag that has no business working and yet does.
Switch 2 owners are eating well
Nintendo’s newer console is getting a steady stream of releases. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition comes September 3. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave follows September 17, then LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight on September 18. September 24 brings both Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Switch 2 Edition and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.
Rounding out the month, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered lands September 29 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2. And yes, you’re absolutely going to replay it.
