One block at a time.
A lot of us stacked wobbly, physics-defying Lego cities as kids. Before long, you’ll be able to relive that — this time on a screen.
Lego Skylines received its reveal today during Opening Night Live at Gamescom. The brick-built city builder is headed to Steam, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, though no release window has been given.
The studio behind it has a complicated recent history
Development duties fall to Iceflake Studios. Genre fans will recognize that name: it’s the team that has taken over Cities: Skylines II.
Paradox Interactive, which has published the franchise for years, pulled original creator Colossal Order off the sequel following a contentious launch that soured relations between the studio and its community. Paradox is on publishing duty here as well.
What the trailer actually shows
The Lego Skylines trailer delivers exactly the kind of bright, playful energy you’d want from a game wearing the legendary toy brand — set alongside the usual trappings of the genre: plots for residential housing, and an urgent case for a fire brigade.
Following such a lengthy and bumpy stretch on the struggle bus, a fresh chapter for this franchise is welcome news. What Iceflake has delivered so far has landed well with the Cities: Skylines faithful, and carrying that goodwill forward into Lego Skylines is what matters most.
