Decentraland has launched Creator Success, a program designed to carry early-stage game ideas all the way to fully funded projects inside its virtual environment. The application process opened to the public in September 2026.
What stands out most is how the money is handed out. A developer collects $1,000 once they can show a working core game loop, then another $3,100 for delivering a playable build. Teams that hit the success criteria become eligible for further rounds of funding.
Innovative funding approach
That staged structure breaks from the usual grant playbook, where a single lump sum arrives upfront and tends to bankroll pitch documents instead of actual game development. Creator Success attaches every payment to a specific achievement, so only projects showing real evidence of viability keep drawing money.
The opening amounts are modest, yet deliberately so. That first $1,000 is meant to make the hours spent on a prototype worthwhile, letting the project’s core mechanics be tested before anyone commits bigger sums.
AI tools for game design
Funding is not the only piece. Decentraland also rolled out AI Game Design Skills, a set of tools that turn loose concepts into structured Game Design Documents (GDDs) covering fundamentals such as core gameplay mechanics and player retention.
Five steps make up the journey: shaping the idea, building a GDD, applying for funding, developing the game, and progressing to later funding stages depending on performance. Framing it this way lowers the entry barrier for newcomers who often struggle to articulate what they have in mind.
Motivation behind the program
The platform’s user-generated content model lives or dies on having active creators, and Decentraland wants to reinforce it.
