In Brief:

  • On Oct. 2, Pixels PIXEL $0.006173 ▲ +1.6% (official site) launched its first blind auction at the Seaside Stash Store. Up for grabs are an Apiary, an Adult Duck, an Adult Goat, an Energy Party hosted by the player and 10 Integrated NFT Avatars.
  • To bid, players spend Buoy Bucks on chits. Bidding ends Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. UTC. Players who don’t win are refunded, minus a 3% fee.
  • Along with the store refresh came new Under the Sea cosmetics. Pixels also made gameplay changes, including a rule that players need 2,000 Reputation points to buy or trade Guild Shards.

The Seaside Stash Store in Pixels opened its first-ever blind auction on Oct. 2. Players can bid on five different prize types.

The lots on offer are one Apiary, one Adult Duck, one Adult Goat, one “Host Your Own Energy Party” event and 10 Integrated NFT Avatars. The studio announced the auction on X, and its Pixels Post newsletter carried the full details.

How bidding works

There are five types of chits in the store, one for each prize. Players can buy any number of chits for any item, and the chits stay in their inventory. They don’t have to be consumed or placed anywhere.

Bids are kept hidden. “This is a blind auction: there is no display in-game of what others are buying. Will you play it safe, or go big?” the Pixels Post said.

Bidding ends Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. UTC. At that point the chits leave the Seaside Stash shelves, and they will be taken out of players’ inventories once the winners are posted.

Players who lose get their Buoy Bucks back, minus a 3% fee. According to the Pixels Post, every auction in this store refresh charges the same fee.

Payouts and prizes

Winners will be announced the following week. Prizes and refunds will arrive in players’ in-game mailboxes.

The NFT prizes are handled separately. Avatar winners will get their NFTs sent straight to the wallet linked to their Pixels account. “The 10 avatars will be chosen at random from the Pixels marketing wallets and sent out at random to winners,” the Pixels Post said.

The team will reach out to the Energy Party winner on Discord to plan the event. The post says the party “can take place on any land in Pixels, closed or open.”

New cosmetics

The refresh also brought new items to the Under the Sea collection. Everything from the previous drop is still available.

The new items include an Under the Sea-themed skin for NFT Land Silos and a matching Pond skin. There’s also an Under the Sea Turtle, which gives land 5,000 discoverability points for 30 days.

The rest of the items are decorations: a PIXELS sign and an Anchor that both play ocean sounds, plus Teal Palm Trees and an Under the Sea Clam.

Other changes

Pixels released several changes to the in-game economy at the same time as the store update. It adjusted T5 recipes and raised T5 demand on the Taskboard.

Business tasks were also adjusted, both in Merchant Ships contracts and on the Taskboard. Buying or trading Guild Shards now requires 2,000 Reputation points.

Background

The Seaside Stash Store is on the docks south of Terra Villa, past the beach and to the left of the Harbourmaster. The newsletter described the refresh as a return visit from “the merchants from under the sea.”

When the Pixels Post embedded the X announcement, it had 522 views. The newsletter said little about the new clam decoration: “go on, click it. Trust us.”
