In Brief:
- Mining is now available in AFK Heroes (official site). With a single toggle, players can pull a hero off the battlefield and put it to work in the mine.
- The new mode spans three zones of 91 hexes apiece and adds pickaxes, hauls and locked hexes that the community unlocks together.
- The launch comes after Pickaxe Crates were added as boss drops in October. It is the first new system since Season 3 sent every hero back to level 1.
Combat is no longer the only job for heroes in AFK Heroes. The Solana idle RPG has switched on mining, so players now have a second place to send them.
The team announced the feature on X: “MINING IS LIVE in AFK Heroes. Flip one switch and your hero leaves the battlefield for the mine.”

Three zones, 91 hexes each
The mine has three zones, and each zone contains 91 hexes. According to the team’s post, the system includes pickaxes and hauls as well as “locked hexes the community opens together.”
Several details were missing from the announcement. It didn’t explain what hauls pay out, whether mining rewards are paid in $AFKHERO, or how many players are needed to open a locked hex. It also didn’t say whether a hero assigned to the mine still earns combat rewards.
Pickaxes came first
The groundwork went in roughly a week before launch. On Oct. 4, the team announced that pickaxes had been added to the game.
“Bosses now drop Pickaxe Crates. Open them, upgrade, reroll, fuse… and get ready for Mining,” the team wrote in that post.
That head start gave players a few days to gather and improve their gear before the zones opened. At around the same time, AFK Heroes also went live on the Solana dApp Store. Seeker owners there can claim a one-time welcome pack with a Mythic gear set, 50 Grand Jug potions, three-hour XP and drop boosts, and a Seeker name tag. The pack can be claimed once per device.
Seasons and resets
AFK Heroes launched in June 2026 as a free-to-play browser game. Players link a Solana wallet and pick a knight, mage or rogue. A voxel hero then fights monsters and collects loot while the player is offline. Zones start at Frozen Spire at level 40 and go up to Singularity Vault at level 90 and above.
Season 2 launched July 24. It brought guilds, crafting, tournaments, PvP, server-wide zone bosses and a Powerball feature. Guild members can earn up to 25% more $AFKHERO.
Season 3 began Aug. 28. It reset every hero to level 1, wiped the leaderboard and returned the map to its original, untouched state. The team said the Season 3 reward pool is three times the size of the Season 2 pool.
The numbers so far
The team posted a 90-day recap on Sept. 12. It said players had earned $74.3K, or 518.7M AFKHERO, and had spent $304K, or 2.12B AFKHERO, over the same period. Marketplace volume came to $85.6K.
$AFKHERO launched on Pump.fun with a total supply of 1 billion tokens. The token sits alongside a referral program that the team recently expanded. Players now earn from what their referred friends spend and trade, get faster payouts, and can compete in a 5,000,000 $AFKHERO prize race.
The first week did not go smoothly. The team counted more than 10,000 wallets, around 6,000 active players and a peak of about 2,400 players online at the same time. It also named the problems it had to deal with that week: security, withdrawals and sybil accounts.
