Describing the nine-day event as a “Cinematic Halloween Event,” the team wrote: “Champz-O-Ween is upon you!”
Champz-O-Ween is upon you!
Beginning October 24 through November 1st a Cinematic Halloween Event will take place. Featuring both artistic and thematic updates, Champz-O-Ween is sure to please.
We are having an AMA on Monday October 19th at 6 PM UTC for some exciting@CHAMPZView on X ↗
Few specifics were shared in the announcement, which made no mention of particular content, rewards or gameplay changes.
Art and theme updates
Per the team, players can expect the event to bring changes to both the game’s visuals and its theme.
“Featuring both artistic and thematic updates, Champz-O-Ween is sure to please,” the team wrote.
The developers have not indicated whether any of these changes will remain in place once Nov. 1 passes. Nor have they said if the event will include anything connected to the game’s NFTs or the $CHAMPZ token.
AMA set for Oct. 19
Ahead of the event’s start, the team will host an AMA at 6 p.m. UTC on Monday, Oct. 19. The visible portion of the post is cut off before it explains what topics the session will address.
As a result, the AMA could be players’ first opportunity to get a complete picture of the event before it goes live on Oct. 24.
How the game works
Champz, which stands for Champignons of Arborethia, is a browser RPG that costs nothing to play. In both PvE and PvP battles, players command mushroom warriors tasked with protecting their homeland, Arborethia, against evil forces.
After logging in, players assemble a squad of as many as six characters, known in-game as Champz. Owning an NFT isn’t necessary. Additional characters are available as NFTs on OpenSea, and according to the game’s FAQ, a squad can include up to two Champz NFTs.
Truffles serve as the in-game currency. While free players are able to earn them, they cannot cash them out. The FAQ states that withdrawing truffles as USDC requires holding a minimum of 25,000 $CHAMPZ. Players holding over 50,000 $CHAMPZ have the character limit lifted altogether.
Token and governance
The $CHAMPZ token exists on both Ethereum and Base, with the Base contract designated as the official game token. Both contracts cap maximum supply at 1 billion tokens. Since there is more than one contract, players should verify the address through the project’s official channels.
Game changes are put to a vote among holders via DAO polls on Snapshot. One previous vote asked holders whether more Leprechauns should be added to the game and whether those enemies ought to become stronger.
“This is your chance to decide how #Champz should evolve!” the team said at the time.
Background
According to the FAQ, the core team operates out of Austria and the United States, while the company itself is registered in Wyoming.
Lately, the project has been positioning itself as indie games on Base and has introduced AI agents. It took part in the Sibyl Labs Memory Hackathon with the goal of adding persistent memory to its AI Arena, in which autonomous agents vie for onchain rewards via a mechanic known as the Guardian Throne.
Under the Guardian Throne mechanic, the price goes up with every send. Cycles run anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and victory goes to the agent that racks up the longest total hold time.
