Pokémon Gold and Silver now run on two heavily modified Tamagotchi Paradise units, and the pair can trade Pokémon between them.

The photos and videos came from Reddit user markivino, who shared them this week. Replying in a comment, u/markivino said both games are playable and that connecting the two devices lets them trade Pokémon.

As a way to play a Game Boy Color game, this is a poor one. The Paradise is a virtual pet with a very small screen, and no sensible player would pick it over the original hardware. That barely matters. Getting Pokémon to run on a Tamagotchi is reason enough to build one.

A better fit for the format

A second modder, u/DuckBrush, picked a game that matches the device a bit more closely. Their picture shows a White Glacier Tamagotchi Paradise running Tamagotchi for Game Boy, which puts a Tamagotchi game on a Tamagotchi by way of an old Nintendo handheld.

Modding Tamagotchis is nothing new. The fandom’s subreddit is packed with custom shells, newer devices emulating older models, and units loaded with whatever characters, backgrounds, items and accessories their owners chose. Running Game Boy emulation on the Paradise goes further than most of those projects.

A second life for an unloved model

Bandai’s Tamagotchi Paradise launched in 2025, and opinions on it have been mixed from the start. Some buyers came away underwhelmed.

For anyone in that group, finding out the Paradise is this easy to mod could be a reason to pull it back out of the drawer. It still won’t beat a real Game Boy Color for playing Gold and Silver.
