The Ethereum Foundation has introduced a new advisory council, the Silviculture Society, to guide its leadership and ensure the organization remains aligned with its core principles.
The announcement, made on February 28 through a post on X, is part of a broader restructuring effort within the Foundation.
A Council to Maintain Ethereum’s Core Principles
The Silviculture Society consists of 15 individuals from outside the Foundation, including researchers, developers, and project leaders. Their role is to provide informal guidance while ensuring that the Foundation continues to uphold its fundamental values, which include open-source development, privacy, security, and resistance to censorship.
Leadership Changes and Community Concerns
The creation of this advisory group follows recent leadership adjustments within the Ethereum Foundation. On February 25, Aya Miyaguchi, the former executive director, announced her transition into the role of President.
This shift comes amid concerns from community members regarding the Foundation’s direction, prompting calls for structural changes. The new council is seen as an effort to address these concerns while reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to its original mission.
Despite the announcement, Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, Ether (ETH), has not seen a positive price impact. According to data from Coingecko, ETH has dropped nearly 5% in the past day, in line with a broader market downturn.
