In a move that has never been seen before, the popular Spanish football club FC Barcelona has teamed up with Plastiks to create its debut non-fungible token (NFT) collection. The initiative called “Unleash Your Passion” seeks to reduce plastic pollution equivalent to waste produced by four football matches.
A Partnership to Fight Plastic Pollution
FC Barcelona and Plastiks, through this innovative alliance, aim to recover around 1,000,000 kilograms of plastic. This recovery equates to the prevention of approximately 35,000,000 one-liter plastic bottles’ production and the non-utilization of 800,000 litres of oil.
The football club has a strong presence on various social media platforms and is committed to promoting sustainability solutions based on Web3. The partnership with Plastiks is a key component of the club’s efforts to reduce environmental waste by utilizing NFTs.
Under the banner “Unleash Your Passion,” the club and Plastiks have introduced an exclusive NFT collection in the form of digital cards. This collection boasts 3,000 distinct animal-themed digital art pieces. Every NFT purchased will facilitate the removal of 35,000,000 kilograms of plastic from the environment.
An alarming 8,000 kilograms of plastic waste is generated during a single football match. This first collection, therefore, strives to mitigate the plastic pollution equivalent to that created in four football matches.
Obtaining the NFT Collection
The animal-themed digital cards from the “Unleash Your Passion” collection is now available for purchase on the Plastiks marketplace at a cost of $30 each.
