Star Atlas steps into Phase Two with major changes
Star Atlas has formally advanced its SAGE C4 play-test realm to Phase Two. Six major features arrive with the update, reworking how players progress, how combat plays out, and how governance functions inside the game. The team framed the move as a pivotal step forward, while asking players to jump in and flag any irregularities they encounter.
New progression mechanics
Two of the updates center on player progression. With the God Mode shortcut gone, the Council Rank system has been sped up, giving players more room to climb. Advancing each tier now requires grinding for experience points, which puts the progression mechanics under heavier testing.
C4 additionally rolls out zXP tracking, tying play-test activity to a wider rewards campaign inside the zink ecosystem. As a result, what players contribute during testing carries over into real benefits that extend past the play test itself.
Revamped combat and NPC dynamics
Combat V2 stands out as the marquee addition here. The reworked system layers in more variables, such as damage types and random modifiers, so fleet composition becomes a key tactical factor. Because it is no longer strictly deterministic, players are pushed to pick their ships with strategy in mind.
Alongside it comes the Nemesis Engine, which powers onchain NPCs beginning with Jorvik. The result is a steady enemy presence across the C4 world, layering on new interaction and challenge. That persistent hostile presence lays the groundwork for later gameplay mechanics like piracy and resource transfers.
Enhancements in production and governance
The update broadens production and governance options as well. Cultivation Claims provide a way to generate unique resources that feed into producing in-game stimulants, deepening both the crafting system and its economic interactions.
On top of that, the new Democracy Module brings a localized governance framework into play. Players are able to set Starbase fees and gather revenue, tying territorial control directly to economic power. The goal is to weave political dynamics into the game’s economic systems.
A continued emphasis on testing
The studio repeated that Phase Two marks a stepping stone rather than a finished product. Players are invited to engage with the new systems, devise strategies, and offer feedback on how it all feels. The intent is to surface genuine gameplay hurdles instead of handing players an easy climb.
Ranking among the play test’s biggest updates to date, Phase Two ties together combat, NPC engagement, production, and governance into one connected experience, calling on the community to put the systems through rigorous testing ahead of launch.
