Newly surfaced court paperwork shows Take-Two Interactive describing its hunt for the people behind the recent GTA 6 leaks as “rapidly evolving.”
That phrasing comes straight from the publisher, in a filing it submitted itself. It isn’t a rumor or an insider whisper — it’s on the record in a legal document.
The new filing isn’t like the last one
When the leaks first surfaced, Take-Two wasted little time firing off DMCA subpoena requests directed at Discord and Microsoft. Those filings were sweeping, requesting an extremely wide range of information, and that earlier request is still publicly viewable.
This latest request works differently. It narrows in considerably, chasing “targeted information” connected both to the earlier subpoena and to particular Discord accounts. Take-Two is also asking for it to be sealed, keeping the leakers from getting an early look at the case forming around them.
“Take-Two has identified one additional Discord user and obtained additional identifying information for a previously identified Discord user, as well as additional information concerning the community servers identified in its prior subpoena for which it now seeks more targeted information,” reads the new request.
Why the publisher wants the paperwork hidden
According to Take-Two, the attachment to the subpoena “reveals highly sensitive, confidential information about an ongoing investigation into copyright infringement and the misappropriation of Take-Two’s confidential information.”
From there, the argument becomes considerably more direct.
“Public disclosure of this information could compromise Take-Two’s ongoing investigation and even tip off the alleged infringers as to the nature and progress of Take-Two’s investigation and information Take-Two has gathered about the infringement,” Take-Two writes.
A footnote in the filing notes that the inquiry “is rapidly evolving and ongoing,” and states that this fresh subpoena request “seeks different information” compared with the original.
Discord said it hadn’t been served yet
One detail worth noting: on August 25, Discord marketing director Ryan Rigney said the platform still had not been served with any Take-Two subpoena. Whether that influenced how the newest request was worded is an open question.
Regardless, none of this has been approved yet. A ruling on Take-Two’s sealed-subpoena request is still pending with the court, and no fresh subpoena has been issued to date.
Two weeks in, and the net is tightening
These leaks have been in circulation for roughly two weeks, which makes the speed of all this stand out. What began as wide sweeps across entire servers is now zeroing in on specific individuals who may be involved.
Anyone connected to the leaks should find that narrowing focus deeply uncomfortable.
On a lighter note from inside the game itself: GTA 6 apparently got too realistic even by Rockstar’s standards, and the studio scrapped a mechanic for restocking Jason and Lucia’s fridge in order to “find the right balance between realism and ease of play.”
