Fifty million dollars. That is the figure Avengers: Doomsday has already banked in US ticket pre-sales, and the film will not reach theaters until December.
Three months of runway remain. The $50 million-plus is sitting there before a single stub has been torn.
The audience isn’t buying cheap seats
Upward of 70% of those advance sales are for Infinity Vision screenings, and that detail says everything. Given the choice, ticket buyers are skipping the standard auditorium at the local multiplex in favor of the biggest room in the building.
Premium formats have steadily claimed a bigger slice of the box office for years, but seeing a 70% split this early in the cycle is the sort of figure that forces a studio to rethink its entire screen allocation.
The trailer put up its own numbers
July's trailer arrived as the second-largest movie trailer launch ever recorded. It also stands as the most popular trailer Disney has ever released, a claim worth pausing on when you consider the size of the company’s catalog.
And the ripple effect has been measurable.
Disney+ is soaking up the overflow
Related Marvel productions pulled in over 420 million viewing hours on Disney+ across August alone. Call it homework. Call it re-watching. In this franchise the two have been indistinguishable for some time now.
It is the strongest evidence yet that the appetite extends well past the theatrical window. The back catalog has become a runway.
December 18 is shaping up as a bloodbath
Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, 2026, the same date Denis Villeneuve’s third Dune film arrives.
Identical release day. Identical premium screens that 70% of Doomsday’s early buyers have already spoken for.
Two of the year’s marquee event films, each engineered for the largest formats on the market, both landing on the same Friday in the thick of the holiday corridor. One is already holding $50 million before the trailers have stopped playing.
The other has Villeneuve.
